It Doesn't Mean You Don't Look After Yourself

When Radhika tells Ishaan that Mishti is just like her mother and "sab ka khayal us hi ko rakhna padta hai na (she just has to look after everyone, doesn't she?)", Ishaan's immediate response is "iska yeh matlab nahi hai ki aap apna khayal na rakho (that doesn't mean you don't look after yourself)".

I can't tell you how much peace I felt hearing that sentiment voiced! Especially by the man possibly entrusted with Mauli's care and happiness in the future. Though he went on to relate it to Radhika and Dida, this one sentence of Ishaan's showed his emotional maturity and understanding of others' needs - especially of people like Mauli, who, to their own detriment, never voice their needs and spend all their energy and care on others.

Too often, we see women who are too good for their own good on TV (and in life!) and people around them usually shower praise ad nauseam for their caring nature but don't spare much thought for that person's actual needs or on reciprocating that effort. They benefit from the unconditional love and thoughtfulness. They don't think too hard about showing the person how appreciated, loved and seen they are by taking care of them and doing things that they find meaningful and important. Not all of these people are malicious or consciously selfish - all sorts of people take goodness for granted and exploit it without meaning to.

It takes an empathetic, observant and kind person to recognise someone being selfless to a fault and encourage the person to step back and be kind to themselves rather than take advantage too.

It's a small line but an important character trait and it made me sit up and take notice of this man. I hope Ishaan lives up to the hope of the character and companion he could be.

Nice observation. Mauli needs someone like Ishaan not like Kunal. Ishaan already showed maturity while Kunal was always pampered when with Mauli. These two are poles apart so I am sure Mauli will never be hurt because of Ishaan.

@Bold- In my family, that is my mother. My mother always says yes to helping family/ relatives, despite of whether they expect her to leave what she is doing that day to take them out/ accompany them somewhere.

My mother does this all, because she is the eldest married woman from my family/ extended family unit as she married when she was only 15 (in her late 30's now) and so from a young age she has had to be mature and now is the most respected member amongst my family unit given that when she married my dad all my uncles and aunties were kids so they look up to her, but it comes at the price of having to put up with other family member's inconsiderate demands who disregard the fact my mother has her own life, chores etc to deal with and expect her to drop everything to do their job/ take them somewhere, and despite her almost always saying yes, if she ever says no, other family members have the audacity to complain and talk about her behind her back. Worse is despite my mum always helping them, most of the times they'll refuse to help her when she needs it. All the others in my family are clearly so lazy.

After dream-come-true Mauli, I think writers are going for dream-come-true Ishaan.. The realistic, matured, caring, understanding Ishaan.. Don' care about chemistry, Mauhaan are perfect due to their nature..

It really is the people around who need to do some introspection. But they're too busy benefiting from their entitled behaviour. They should learn to hear no more often. Sadly, they will complain and backbite but it's the price to pay for your own peace of mind.

What really gets me is when these people praise that person's selfless nature when really, they've pigeonholed the person into giving them so much energy and are causing them so much stress.

I'm sure they will have their own set of problems but I don't think he would hurt her the way Kunal did.

You're completely right about Kunal being pampered by Mauli. The whole family was. And usually it's understandable to not notice or care - you don't measure everything with family or think of everything as give and take. But when it becomes 'give and give' only, something needs to change. I'm trying to think of a time when Kunal tried to lessen the burdens on Mauli or did something to show his appreciation for her but I'm coming up blank 😳

Their natures are well suited and he seems mature, and as Priya_18 said, sensible enough to be a good friend and support system for Mauli. I do wonder whether we will see that she feels the same way about him but is cautious of being in a relationship again or if she sees him as a friend but feels obligated to him for his kindness. I don't want her to be with him feeling like she owes him somehow for his years of understanding. I'm interested to see Mauli's side of this relationship.

What he said about her being compelled to come to him one day and declare her love made me think that we will eventually see an ultimatum or Ishaan may get tired of waiting and leave, causing Mauli to realise her love. I'm cautious about a situation like this because I don't want to see compulsion or circumstances forcing Mauli's hand - I want her to feel the love herself and want to express it.

i want to point out few more things..
ishaan helped mauli by bringing all decoration stuff.
he also said mishti has seen him playing the role of her father for last 3 years..
when radhika worries that there is too much work, he says that he will come and handle everything..
one more dialogue of ishaan " diwali parivaar se hoti hai. decorations se nahi" . he cares about togetherness of a family... which i liked the most .. 😊

i always said that if they bring a new lead for mauli then he should have all those things which kunal lacked.
kunal never cared about his family and responsibilities..
it was mostly mauli who took care of them.

now we might see ishaan playing the role of ghar ka beta..
i like this guy..

Maybe entry of Kunal will help her to realise that she can't live without Ishaan actually or she already likes him but is hesitant to express it due to her past..
