Behir backstory
These are my views and opinions only.
When the show started they showed bela as bubby and happy going, girl next door type, but we soon realised it was far from reality.
Gradually we were made aware that bela's main target was Mahirji, her aim was to get married to Mahirji. So why didn't she just approach Mahirji like she did with yuvi for marriage, why so much drama?
After rewatching the series I would love to believe this is why
After that eventful night and change of her physical appearance,name and identity, she became a new person, who was hurt and enraged and craved for justice. She would have first consulted vish as no other confidantes of her were left.
Before her crowning ceremony she wanted to satisfy her hunger for enemy's blood! She had 6 months to achieve this, so first thing she would have done is to learn human things! The behaviour, body language, languages, technology, the slangs the lingos, the dressing, the list is never ever ending!
Then she would have done a background search and research. She had vish and Arvind's assistance, the work would have been divided amongst them, they may have chosen certain number of people for themselves to learn about. But bela, bela would have personally tagged Mahirji, she herself would have followed him, his likes, dislikes.
Soon she might have discovered that this man is not willing to get married or settle down. This is not a man who just falls in love. This is not a man that can be forced to marry. This is not a man who can be enticed by beauty. This is not a man who will get attracted to power or wealth. This is not a man controlled by his lust. This right here should have been her first clue! But poor thing, she is hurt, confused and lost and her only advisory is vish! I understand how she could have missed this clue. And No doubt she would have gotten so frustrated not being able to find any chink in his armour, no weaknesses.
Then one fine day, like the gods themselves have taken pity on the serpent queen, she witnesses his interaction with his mother! That is when it finally hits her, she has been aiming at wrong places, Mahirji is a protector by nature, and he is a man of his word! Mahirji is a pathological rescuer, especially if the sufferer is someone he deeply cares about.
She devises a plan to target this part of his heart. Yuvi was a piece of cake for her to attract and schedule everything according to her plan!
Now she represents herself as someone who is going through with the wedding for two main reasons.
One being her friend.
Two being her father in financial debt of Sehgals. She makes sure she and her fake father have this conversation when Mahirji is eavesdropping.
We may love our siblings despite their flaws but we know them well, especially a man like Mahirji knows yuvi, maybe not to the extent we know yuvi but still, so right from the beginning he is scared for bela because of this, so he is extra cautious and extra observant towards them.
Then there is entry of vish, a woman who is entirely opposite to what bela is, looks, behaviour, attitude her whole persona. Vish has been intentionally planted, to make the contrast between her bela crisp, especially to Mahirji.
Suhani is also getting married to Pratham just like bela is getting married to yuvi, Mahirji is elder to all four, everyone addresses Mahirji as bhai or bhaiya with only exception being bela! When Suhani is addressing him as mahir bhaiya why not bela?!
The trap has been so masterfully placed!
I always wondered how much did bela trust Mahirji to come and sit in mandap whole heartedly and willingly, because yuvi will be taken care of, obviously!! Then I remembered she obviously realised it very early that Mahirji feels for a her very strongly, that's why she took such a big gamble!
You guys of course remember during her wedding party, fourth episode, when she is in this beautiful yellow lehenga, she sees vish's pic in Haveli and asks Arvind to carry it to party. I initially felt bela played this particular trick to take spotlight away from her, by herself accusing vish as naagin, that may also have been the motive but her main focus was Mahirji.
She makes a fool of herself in front of everyone, no proof nothing, still Mahirji is the only one amongst all gathered including her fake father, who is willing to give her a chance to explain. Andy gets mad at her for accusing vish and asks her to apologise to vish in front of everyone and when she does, the camera is focused on Mahirji for a couple of seconds only, he feels her embarrassment and hurt, when she says she is sorry, he closes his eyes!!!
This particular scene lasts for couple of seconds only, but that expression was it for me! I guess for bela too! Hook, line and sinker. He was in her trap completely, willingly.
But alas, like it always happens with all best laid plans, it happened here too.
