Margot Robbie turned heads at the Wuthering Heights premiere in Los Angeles, not just for her red carpet gown but for her choice of jewellery. The actress wore Elizabeth Taylor’s legendary Taj Mahal diamond necklace, a historic piece rooted in Mughal-era legacy. The heart-shaped necklace became the focal point of her appearance, adding a vintage touch to her modern look.

Robbie’s outfit featured a dramatic strapless gown with a sheer black lace bodice and a voluminous skirt that faded into a bold crimson hem. While her dress received attention, it was the Taj Mahal diamond necklace that sparked conversation. Speaking about it on the red carpet, Robbie said, “It felt like it had a lot of romantic history and felt appropriate for tonight.”

A Historic Jewel With Mughal Roots and Elizabeth Taylor’s Legacy

The necklace carries centuries of history and romance. It was gifted to Elizabeth Taylor by her fifth husband, Richard Burton, on her 40th birthday, over five decades ago. The heart-shaped table-cut diamond bears a Parsi inscription reading “Love is Everlasting,” and also features the name of Mughal empress Nur Jahan. Experts believe the gem originally belonged to Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who reportedly presented it to his wife, Mumtaz. Over time, it passed down through generations and eventually became part of Elizabeth Taylor’s collection.

In 1971, Cartier acquired the Taj Mahal diamond, enhancing it with red gemstones and table-cut diamonds. The piece continues to be celebrated for its historical significance, combining Hollywood glamour with Mughal craftsmanship.

Margot Robbie’s choice also coincides with her film appearance. Wuthering Heights, releasing on 13 February 2026, stars Jacob Elordi alongside Robbie. The upcoming adaptation has already generated buzz for its steamy trailer, period-inaccurate costumes, and moody Charli XCX soundtrack. Jacob Elordi had previously mentioned planning a break from acting before being approached for the film. Director Emerald Fennell has stated that this adaptation will be her third feature film, offering a fresh take on the classic novel.

Robbie’s red carpet moment highlighted how historic jewels can bridge cultures and eras, bringing Mughal-era elegance into contemporary Hollywood style.
