Seems like he took a stand for Mauli since she was with him .. An attempt to white wash his name .. yest he saw Mauli walking away with tears why didn't he stop her ??? He cared to arrange for a Dinner date but didn't care if Mauli is dead or Alive

Story different hoti, her crying all the time would've been justified as a bezubaan person so maybe people wouldn't have hated her as much because at some point we would've been like ke is bechari ka POV bhi pata nahin chale ga but someone who utters shit 24/7 and then doesn't give away her POV to the audience just gets the audience that much frustrated and pissed!
