I finally found out more information about the game Alexander and Hephaestion were playing during the celebration where Arrhidaeus was introduced. It is called kottabos, and after reading more about it, I am surprised that the CVs included this in the Macedonian track, and even more at how far off the track they have gone with the depiction of Macedonian culture and grandeur, trivializing all of Alexander's achievements. The scene is from episode 25 where Alexander drinks a little before flinging the famous red liquid (which we jokingly refer to as Rooh Afza here) at the target, and says:

Dum baazuon mein hota hai, sharaab mein nahin.

and the whole aura around Alexander and his smartness seems a far cry from what we see these days.

You can read more about this game of skill here:

They have really put in a lot of effort in Macedonian track but when they started to glorify Porus, it all got ruined.

I think this is where the show went wrong. If they had made the intro and the initial Macedonian scenes pretty regular then we would not have had such a hard time dealing with how Macedonians are portrayed here. By investing so much time and effort in the grand portrayal of Macedonia and Alexander's journey, they sold the idea a little too well. 😉

On the flip side, by doing this, they have alienated viewers, especially overseas, to the point where the show is labeled as a complete fantasy, which means they will not take anything on the show seriously, including the PR tracks. SidT really shot himself in the foot with this.

I was seriously impressed by the research done to create the kottabos scene and the effort to make it look authentic, given the circumstances. Even the way Alexander drank from his cup before throwing out the rest, is apparently the way it was done, i.e. you wouldn't toss a full cup of wine at the target. This knowledge makes it painful to watch the show now but whenever I get a chance I go back to watch the Macedonian scenes from the beginning of the show until the end of the battle of Issus, all of which were truly remarkable.

True! SidT raised our expectations in the beginning and by doing this he has himself called out for our wrath upon him now.😆 I also go back to watch the Macedonian sequences till the time Porus decided to burn the Faarsi markets.🤢

I was thinking that since Porus's story is complete fiction, if someone in future decides to showcase his life again, he will write another fiction entirely different from SidT's version and this will throw the viewers into serious confusion.

My dear, considering what has happened to this show despite the huge amount of publicity Swastik did for it, I don't think ANYONE in India would be interested in making a Porus-centric show/film for a long long time, if ever. Neither would anyone overseas. If anything, Porus will always tend to be shown as part of Alexander's story.
