About the show

"Yeh Un Dino Ki Baat Hai jab Shahrukh Khan 'King Khan' nahin the aur Salman Khan Bhaijan' nahin ; 'Prem' kehlate the.''

The Indian television doesn't generally treat us with soaps and serials which break the shackles of kitchen politics and business tycoons with PPTs would not be entirely wrong. The reason is clear;the ones who make serials rarely experiment and so, it all comes down to planning and plotting. Sick with the repetitive plots, there is one show which went on air on 5th September,2017.

With newbies on board along with veterans, high school drama and the setting of timeline in 90s taught Indian Television how a show without glitters and fancy can do wonders. The show spun hopes for both entertainment and nostalgic viewers across the world. Not only it has the spunk to keep one hooked to the TV screen but also has managed to be consistently on the TRP tables.Critically the show has been reviewed and praised for innumerable reasons.

Aced acting by the cast, strong storyline, brilliant cinematography and powerful direction has made the show stand out in the galaxy of shows with popular faces.

The serial is about Naina (Ashi Singh) and Sameer (Randeep Rai) and their love story set in the small town of Ahmedabad. Naina studies in the 11th standard, is a topper, studious and head discipline monitor, while Sameer is expelled from his schooling in Nainital for recklessness and indiscipline. He visits his Nanu in Ahmedabad and later decides to continue his studies in Ahmedabad only.As destiny brings them together to the Pragati Vidya Ka Mandir, they clash and truce several times. Both of them are from quite different background, principles and upbringing, and how they meet and fall in love with each other in truest terms forms the crux of the story.

The show narrates a heart-touching romantic tale about the magic of first love and confusing emotions interlaced with sensitivity and humour. The creative team of Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai left no stone unturned to recreate Ahmedabad from the earlier era.

The USP of the show is the nostalgic era of 90s'. Based in the 90s, the show takes the viewers down the memory lane as it features things belonging to that era like GoldSpot,Campa Cola, high-waist jeans, baggy clothes, VCRs,land line telephones and many such things. Life was much simpler when Apple was just a fruit and Google wasn't there to answer all our queries. How Chitrahar' decided the fates and two rings on telephone' was the secret code of lovers.

Inspired by the real-life story of the show producers Shashi and Sumeet, Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai is a coming of age love story. In a time, untouched by smartphones, computers,DishTVs,Netflix, social networking sites, it's an exploration of teenage love, with all its innocence, inexperience and anxieties.

It's a typical boy-meets-girl story, but with uniqueness and nostalgia . As cliche as this plot may sound, it is the elements of uniqueness of the story which makes that impact:

The treatment: Since the show is set in 90's, the makers have come really close to depicting the era in a perfect manner. There are no unrealistic things on the show. Our protagonist Naina goes to school on a bicycle and eats lunch in stainless steel tiffin box. Though Sameer belongs to an affluent family, the show doesn't promote him as a royal prince. We don't see Sameer riding flamboyant cars or anything. His affluent status is not forced on us, unlike other serials. He takes public transport like autos. He has a personal bike to his credit. In one scene, Sameer gives Rs 5 to his friend for samosa and cold drinks, to show how such a small amount of money could do wonders at that time.In another scene, the news of relative's arrival through flight brought happiness ;shows how happiness were found in small things.

The music: Anu Malik has composed the music of this show and it is soothing. The background music is melodious and gives that mushy feel. The title track has been sung by famed play back singers Kumar Sanu and Sadhna Sargam. The other back ground scores and music has been composed by singer-music director duo Nishant-Raja. The best part about the serial is there is nothing which is over-the-top.The film tracks of 80s and early 90s aptly describe the mood of the scenes.

The narration: Naina, who is now a celebrated author, is the narrator who takes us down the memory lane. She points out the stark difference between the current era and the bygone one. For example, she explains how getting a fancy haircut was such a big deal back in 90's and if at all they did, how the parents would get furious and punish them. After a major track in the show's run, along with Naina ,the viewers got to hear the narration of grown up Sameer. The voice overs by Sadiya Sidique and Jiten Lalwani are the one of the major attraction and uniqueness of the show.

The Middle Class Portrayal: The middle class problems are well described in the show. Other serials show the middle class with lots of debts and their affiliation to the rich main leads. Unique in treatment, the show brings realistic middle class problems on screen. The arguments with junk dealers, the bargaining with vegetable vendor and shop owners, lice in girls' heads, possessing cara dream come true, and not to forget the 'tinde'' on dinner table portrayals makes the show relatable and entertaining.

Innocence in Love: While the viewers of other serials lose counts of leads holding hands, tripping, falling and catching, Yeh Un Dino Ki Baat Hai shows how physical proximity is not everything for a love story to progress.Masoom Nirdosh Pyar is what Sameer and Naina believe in.Even the hand-holding' used to be a mile stone in love stories back then. The innocence and purity of love and the nuances delivered by leads set the screens ablaze.

Sameer Maheshwari

A handsome and charming 17 yr old from a Nainital Convent School, Sameer had initially considered himself a misfit in Ahmedabad's Hindi medium school. Proud of his looks, charm and social status, he considered himself superior than his fellow classmates on few occasions. Since childhood he has craved for his mother's affection, love and care, but could not receive any of it as he grew up in a boarding school away from his mother Vishakha. Behind this facade of a proud teenager, lies a kind-hearted and benevolent gentleman, who is well aware of his actions and its consequences. Many times termed as an irresponsible teenager, he found a loving and caring companion for life in his classmate Naina. His growing affection and love for Naina, has been visible in his actions and over the course of time has made him a calm and composed person.

Naina Agarwal

A compliant and dutiful child of the Agarwal family, Naina has always tried her best to abide by the rules laid by her elders. A bright and brilliant student throughout her life, she has always been successful in pleasing her teachers by her conduct and behavior. Being determined to occupy herself with her studies, she never expected that the 16th year of her life would bring a drastic and important change in her life, which would make her question all the rules of her life. Having fallen head-over-heels in love with her classmate at the very first site, she has come a long way in occupying a place in his heart, with her persistent love and care. She has loved and admired Sameer since day one and desires to have a beautiful and successful future with him.

Preeti Agrawal

An extremely lively person from the Agarwal family. Her carefree attitude and happy go lucky nature makes her the most likeable character of the show. Though she receives scolding from her mother always for her lack of interest in studies, she loves being well-versed in Bollywood film songs and dialogues. Partner in crime with Naina, she loves her cousin a lot and always stands besides her through thick and thin.

Pandit

Pandit- Munna's partner in crime since childhood, Pandit's escapades along with Munna have many times been a laugh riot. Master of cracking one-liner jokes, he is a carefree 17 yr old craving for attention from girls of his age. Just like Munna, Pandit has been an important pillar of Sameer's life encouraging him in his endeavors.

Munna

Swati

Childhood friend and confidante of Naina, Swati has been an admirer of the filmy world and hence loves to live in a dreamland made of Bollywood movies and songs. A supportive friend to Naina, she has always tried her best to show Naina the right and practical path to follow when pursuing her dream love-life. It has been fun to watch her equation with her classmate Munna, who's love advancements she has been ignoring since day one.

Arjun Agarwal

The forbearing son of Rakesh Agarwal, Arjun has always been passionate about playing cricket, but to his misfortune he has hardly enjoyed playing cricket because of his father's immense pressure to make it big in the cricketing world. A bearer of his father's vexatious expectations, Arjun has always tried his best to be a protective brother but many times ends up committing mistakes out of fear and pressure. Arjun hardly having any good friends his entire life, he has found a confidante and a good friend in his neighbor Shefali.

Shefali

A fearless and vivid neighbor of Agarwal family, Shefali has always had advanced and liberal thoughts compared to the society she lived in. Shefali has been a flag-bearer of men-women equality in the era when young girls were mostly expected to be subservient to the men and the elders of the society. Shefali initially been a pen-friend of Naina, has over the course of time befriended Naina's brother Arjun and has shared a good rapport with him since then.

Rakesh Agarwal

The lesser-known sibling among the three-Agarwal siblings, Rakesh Agarwal a librarian by profession is a status and money-minded person who is always ready to blame others for his failures. His anger-ridden and bitter nature has many times caused problems for his kids- Arjun and Naina. Considering himself a failure all his life, he has burdened his elder son Arjun to fulfill his harsh expectations. Being jealous of the superior of the society, he has always behaved brashly with Sameer because of his high status. Naina has also bore the brunt of her father's discrimination.

Anand Agarwal

A CA by profession, Anand Agarwal has always been the most progressive and liberal thinker among the three-Agarwal siblings. Not only a doting father and a caring husband, but he also loves his niece Naina and nephew Arjun as his own kids. Always been a guiding light and a huge support system for Naina, he has been an open-minded and sorted person, who always tries his best to pass on his liberal thoughts to the next generation of the family.

PP

Pooja Agarwal

The eldest child of the Agarwal family, she has been a pampered and loved child who is eager to get married and settled in her life as early as possible. Calling her fiance as 'Rishi Kapoor', she expects to have a fairy-tale wedding just like in movie Chandni.

Ja
Jai Prakash (Nanu)

Nanu- as fondly called by his grandson Sameer, Jayprakash Maheshwari has been an influential cloth-mill owner in Ahmedabad. He is extremely fond of his grandchild Sameer and since childhood he has always encouraged him to follow his heart and his passion. In an era where remarriage of women was still a taboo in the society, he supported his daughter to get married again in order to have a safe and secure future for herself. He is also shown to be pleased of his grandson's choices and has expressed his affection for Naina at many occasions.

Vishaka Somani

Vishakha Somani, daughter of Jayprakash Maheshwari and mother of Sameer, since day one she has been torn between her son and her second husband Mr. Somani. In order to pay more attention to her newly formed family, many times she has conveniently ignored the upbringing of her first child Sameer. Intending and desirous to have a good and secure future of Sameer, she many times ends up misunderstanding Sameer and in turn judges him for his actions and quotes him as irresponsible and careless.

Vivek Somani

Mr Somani, a reputed and shrewd businessman settled in Delhi with his wife Vishakha and son Rohan, he has always detested his step-son Sameer and has always tried to keep him away from his family, also from his wife Vishakha. He has always tried to project Sameer's flaws and shortcomings in a bigger fashion to his wife eventually increasing the rift between the mother-son duo.

Shanti Mam

Mathematics teacher of Pragati Vidya ka Mandir, she has been the crush of many adolescent students of this school. She is a sweet natured and supportive teacher who enjoys company of her students.

Dadi

A vile adult of the Somani family, she loves her grandchild Rohan a lot. A staunch believer of blood is thicker than water, she cannot even stand the idea of presence of her step grandson Sameer in her house. Living with her insecurities that Sameer might rule the family in near future and her grandchildren might not get their official share in property, she never allowed Sameer to come close to her family, especially his mother. Even after Sameer moved to Delhi, she made sure that he is isolated from everyone else in the family and never left a chance to torment him.

Rohan

An obedient and focused kid of the Somani family, Rohan has been the apple of everyone's eye in the Somani family. He shares an affectionate and loving bond with his step-mom Vishakha and hence he has always respected and loved Sameer - his step-brother. He believes that his step-mom had to sacrifice her love for her own son, inorder to take care of him and hence as opposed to his grandmother he has been supportive to Sameer when he moved to Delhi.

Deepika

6 year old daughter of Vishakha and Vivek Somani, this adorable little kid has always been the notorious and chirpy one of the Somani family. She shares a fun bond with Sameer and affectionately calls him Sameer Bhaiyya, just like she calls her other step-brother Rohan Bhaiyya.

Amrita

Somani family's neighbor and Sameer's only true friend in Delhi, Amrita is an outspoken girl. She has always supported Sam in various situations - be it helping him connect with Naina by giving her landline phone, or getting Sameer a job in her Dad's office, Amrita has always stood by Sameer like a true friend throughout his Delhi stay.

Mama-Mami

Sameer's mama who all the while happens to manage deceased Nanu's business in Ahmedabad when Sameer was in Delhi, claims to be quite close to Nanu and he is also Sameer's current caretaker in Ahmedabad. He moved to Nanu's place with his family inorder to live with Sameer. Mami though seems to be caring towards Sameer, is otherwise a blunt and arrogant lady, who is very proud of her Mumbai roots and always treats her daughter-in-law with bitter taunts over generation gap and household work.

Poonam Bhabhi

Poonam Bhabhi is a young, sweet and caring daughter-in-law of Mama-Mami, she shares an affectionate and sisterly-bond with Sameer. She has some idea about Sameer's relation with Naina and hence at times affectionately teases Sameer about it. Till now she has been quite supportive towards Sameer and has also helped him for his college competitions and programs

Devang Bhaiyya

Dutiful Son of Sameer's uncle and aunt who works along with his father in his business. He's married to quite the opposite Poonam who often leaves him acting amusive before others when she starts romancing him slyly.

Sunaina

Vain and used to getting her way, she's the Ms. Fresher of VJN who most of the time lives in her own world. She has a thing for Sameer and the well heeled girl has a good relation with his family.

Kartik

Grandson of the trustee at the VJN and having his brother for a senior, he has a great deal of control in college. Known for his short temper and his crush on Sunaina, he wants her as his girlfriend where in the process, his path clashes with Sameer, Munna and Pandit and instantly they turn into rivals. Often accompanied by his friends- Priyank and Mitali.

'Yeh Un Dino Ki Baat Hai' chronicles a 1990's love story between Naina and Sameer. The show explores the 'magic of first love'. Naina, a quintessential good girl, meets flamboyant Sameer in her school,Pragati Vidya Ka Mandir in Ahmedabad. The first time they crossed paths, their lovestory began with 'Chewing gum' and 'Sorry'.However they didn't see each other.Destiny played cupid and brought them together to Pragati Vidya Ka Mandir.Naina falls in love-at-first-sight' with Sameer while they nearly collided with each other in school corridor. The fancy dreams of her 'Prince Charming' did not last long as Sameer was found to be smoking, involved in brawls etc.

Amidst this she gets selected for admission in Vanasthali but is sad to leave her first love'.But again a little prank by Munna and Pandit, the friends-brothers of Sameer results in non-submission of application later.Hence,Naina's 'Vanasthali' admission stood cancelled.

With the Head Boy contest announcement in school,Sameer and Arjun(Naina's brother) participated as contestants.Sameer takes up the challenge of winning the contest to prove his mettle to his mother Visakha and step father Vivek Somani.Arjun too is pressurised immensely by his father librarian Rakesh Agarwal to become successful in the contest. In midway,Sameer seeks help from Naina for tutoring him for the contest.Naina agrees and thus started their friendship.

All hell broke loose when the news of stolen exam papers reach the Principal. In a series of misunderstandings ,allegations and false witness by Naina;Sameer was adjudged to be the culprit. This results in Sameer's defamation and suspension and his subsequent dislike towards Naina.

In order to avenge his insults Sameer takes a bet with his friends that he will make Naina fall in love with him and confess infront of everyone.Over the bet phase Sameer learns that Naina is a helping and caring girl.He starts feeling guilty for the bet he made. But he was badly trapped.Their friendship culminates in Naina's love confession in the Mt.Abu trip. The secret of 'bet' was out too. This revelation left both of them at soar ends.Broken, they part ways.

Back home,Naina is numbed by the turn of events while Sameer is extremely guilty of hurting Naina's emotions. He decides to seek her forgiveness. The 'Sorry'' seeking ends on an emotional note when Naina breaks down finally.Naina's heart pour breakdown made Sameer realise his true love for her.Though broken himself he determines to win her back.

In the midst Arjun comes to know about Sameer and Naina's affair and the bet .He confronts Naina and gets involved in a duel with Sameer. Arjun accidentally slips off the stairs and hurts his leg badly.Rakesh demands punishment for Sameer. With a series of arguments,it was decided that Sameer would stay at Naina's place and serve Arjun.

Sameer comes to Naina's house and gradually over the stay learns the nuances of middle class family. He starts falling in love with her family too.Over a series of incidents he manages to win over her family. His mature dealings and unconditional love makes Naina forgive him finally.

In Pooja's marriage and post cricket match, Naina and Sameer confess to each other as they realize that they belong to each other and are inseparable.

Later on, one of the most loved character that is Nanu's sad departure. Here are the highlights of some of the most important stops on the journey during this period. For me underlying feeling has been rather emotional and painful for the majority part but today I have decided to borrow some sense of humour from the VOs who are able to laugh about pretty much anything and everything.

Chalo Delhi

Nanu's demise turned Sameer's and the viewers world upside down. Sameer landed in Delhi with the Somani family and we all got to experience the Somani family dynamics especially Dadi and Kashav. What a team! And these two set out to make life as miserable as possible for Sameer and sabotage all budding relationships. But, good always triumphs evil and hence the evil Dadi was defeated as Sameer managed to make place for himself in Rohan and Deepika's hearts and to some extent in Mr Somani's life too. Along the way he made some endearing friends like Amrita and some that we all hated with a vengeance like the Mawali gang.

The real beauty of this track was the portrayal of the challenges of a long-distance relationship in the nineties and how Samaina overcame these. Waiting and counting down days for the love letters to arrive, the limited phone calls always keeping an eye on the PCO meter and then Sameer reading shayari to his girl over the radio. Also, there were a few light moments like the tashan between Sameer and Dadi, the wig pulling incident being the highlight!

Manhoosiyat Ka Saya

Evil Dadi's character was hated by all and the CVs decided to get rid of her. But not before she set the stage for the next set of challenges for Samaina, introducing the Manhoos track. She brained washed our Mr Sameer Buddhu Maheshwari into believing he is unlucky for all who love him and was the reason behind his mother catching a bad case of Flu. This resulted in him distancing himself from his mother and Naina.

Naina decided to visit Sameer in Delhi and even learnt semi-classical dance with some special help from Kamya. But alas, the manhoosiyat venom had already started working and we did not get a Samaina reunion in Delhi. The fandom was once again left dejected.

Vishakha finally found her voice and decided to do what was best for Sameer and sent him back to Ahmedabad to now live with her cousin brother and his family. This new family consisting of Mama, Mami, Bhaiya and Poonam Bhabhi was well received by the viewers. They genuinely seemed to love Sameer and fed him well, which was very important considering Dadi had been feeding him baasi rotis in Delhi. Cvs realised that the way to our hearts is via Sameer's well feed tummy 😉

Post return to Ahmedabad, Sameer tried to avoid Naina and gang for a bit. But Naina who never doubted his love, was not ready to give up. She made sure that she ended up in VJM and pursued him. The flying kisses and dancing (group dance as the gang is an integral part of almost all Samaina moments) around him didn't quite seem to work. So finally, she resorted to smoking, which earned her a slap and which she returned with equal fervour. Nineties ka pyar kuch alag hi tha! This was followed by the Ghanta Ghanti scene in the mandir and we got the Samaina milan that the fandom had been pining for a long long time...

Romance ka bhi ek lecture hona chahiye

Now that the would-be Mr and Mrs Maheshwari were back together, their focus shifted on winning the Mr and Miss Fresher title. This gave the love birds ample opportunity for some khullam khulla romance under the pretext of dance practice. We got to see some new dance moves and twirls. And of course, the much talked about Chocolate feeding/wiping scene, thanks to some brilliant improvisation by the actors! (please stop hyperventilating and a deep breath now)

Taking advantage of our poor Ponga's available status, the rival gang played dirty and stole the songs. Our gang tried to improvise at the last minute with some Qawwali but didn't quite hit the mark. (Lesson learnt improvisation does not always work!) Alas though Sameer did win the Mr Fresher title, Sunaina won the Ms Fresher title. Thankfully clicking some photos wearing Sunaina's Stash was good enough for Naina and all was well in Samaina world for a bit.

Swati and Munna become a couple and started moving at jet speed. Well, maybe it was just normal speed but compared to Samaina it seemed like jet speed! We then got some more romance like the Samaina bike ride and Beta movie date, followed by the usual dhamakas. Kissi na kissi ghrah ki shanti karwana jaruri hai... fandom will happily do it if we can figure out the birth date/time/place details of Samaina.

Arjun-Shefali Kand Ke After Effects

Parallelly Arjun bhaiya bhi Shefali ke sath joroki batting karne mein lage hue thay. Aur bohoot achaa score bhi bana liya tha... par phir sixer marne ki koshish mein out he ho gaye. Aur inka sportsman spirit toh hum dekh hi chuke hai toh apnne sath sath humre Samaina ko bhi le dube!

Seeing Arjun's cowardly behaviour, Shefali's broken self esteem and Rakesh ka Jalwa Naina was thoroughly shaken. Chachaji uttered his favourite words of Vishwaas and Bharosa and that was it. Naina ne dusre hi din subha sawre uthke break-up karliya (of course without any make-up)

Sameer ne bohoot kuch try kar liya, aur jab kuch bhi haasil na hua toh bun gaya Shree Sameer Babaji. Kudos to Randeep for his acting portraying the heartbroken and disillusioned Sameer. He actually rocked the Dhoti-Kurta and Dadhi look! Mundit stood by him as strong as ever.

Naina completely unaware of Sameer's state was trying to be the good daughter. Not sure what Munna Swati ever talk about... or maybe they take the sacredness of lover's conversations too seriously, cause Swati never shared anything about Sameer's condition with her.

Sameer decided to join an ashram in Pune, but couldn't do so without one final goodbye and thank you to Naina and hence reached the college on the first day of the second year of college.

Sharad Sunaina Ne Mari Entriya

As destiny would have it, Naina had been approved by a prospective groom's family just the day before and the roka was already done. Taiji ki takat ka toh hum sab ko andaja hai hi, wo toh kuch bhi karwa sakti hai. Aur aaise hui Mr Dilip Mirani ke chamche Sharad ki entry!

Dusre din jab Sameer ne apni Naina ke hatho mein kisi aur ke naam ki mehendi dekhi toh usne Pune jaane ka plan cancel kar diya. Aur immediately avatar bhi change kar diya... aura ab hui Sunaina ki entry! Waise Sunaina to pehele se hi thi show mein, par jab tak Sameer ne usse propose nahi kiya uska koi khas relevance nahi tha.

Ghar pe Sharad aur college mein Sameer dono ne mil ke Naina ka khoob dil jalaya. Well, khoshish toh ki. But it was not 100% clear to the viewers what exactly was going through Naina's mind. Neither Ashi's acting nor the VO was effectively used for helping us understand the pain of separation that Naina should have been going through.

Luckily (for us all) Sharad turned out to be wolf in sheep's clothing. And stupid too! Chachaji ka collar pakad liya and uska khel khatam hua. Phir Naina pe bhi usne hath utha liya aur Sameer ne jee bhar ke dhulayi ki uski! Phir Naina ne bhi ek thapad lagaya aur aaise hui Sharad ki exit (as far as we know...)

Naina ka rishat tutne se pehele, Sameer ko bhi time pe akal aa gayi thi aur usne bhi Sunaina ke sath breakup kar liya tha. So that paved the path for potential make-up. But, Naina wanted to be just friends. She was still in her good daughter and best niece proving mode. So, Sameer dreamt of the Tofa Tofa song in vain, which was followed by another proposal from his side and another rejection from her.

Samaina Phir Se

Aur ab jab sabke sabra ka bandh tutne hi wala tha... Chachaji ne letters padhe, Samaina se baat ki aur apna green signal de diya! With some terms and conditions of course. Chachaji apne zamane ke Rajesh Khanna reh chuke hai, toh Samaina ke rishtey ki haad ko lekar pareshaan ho gaye. Par yeh nahi jaantey ke Samaina ke haad ki guarantee yeh pura fandom lene ko tayar hai 😆

Munna mummy now decided to protect her baby from future heartbreaks and refused to bless this reunion. But the new himmatwali Naina decided to fight back and headed to the terrace all ready to jump. Naina ka yeh avatar dekh kar Munna mummy ne bhi apna avatar change kar diya aur phir se apne Laxman roop mein chala gaya.

Once again, we have our favourite couple together and now that Sameer has announced that going forward all girls except Naina are his sisters hopefully we won't be seeing him with anyone else. Hoping to see some dhamaka free sweet romance and no more judaai!

Interpreting The Show Through The Symbolism Frame

'If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change ''--Dr. Wayne Dyer

The show over one year has given us number of subtle references to analyse, ponder and see the bigger picture.Cvs have to be applauded for inserting the scenes where significant symbols bloomed and taught us the essence of life.

Here are few symbolisms collected and compiled...

Dreams of Do Pal..

The dreams she saw with him included and the thoughts, plans and frustrations he had with her included is going to stop and fall shattered and scattered.

However the sweet poison that would seep into both lives will remain a painful sting throughout. Both hearts will break simultaneously.None would have a peaceful night.

He will crave for her existence. That's what he is infinitely attracted to.He would not not want anything but her to exist. And that would be more than enough for him.

She would be in a state where she would still be coming to terms that who brought her smiles could bring her so much tears.

She would lose her smile and he would lose his sunshine.

However all good things fall apart so that better things can fall together.

Flames

''A spark of kindness starts a fire of love.''

Yes! If we rewind back to initial episodes and the latest one in bucket,Fire /Flames is something that have acted as catalyst or symbol of their new beginnings.

It was for Flames (game) only, they realised they were no more simply classmates rather friends.

It was for Flames(camp fire) only he could get to see a new side of her.

And it's the flame of love kindling in both hearts that is soon going to catch a fire, untamed and inexhaustible.

Its not only the physical Flames rather the raging flames in mind that have proved to be turning points in their story.

The flame of passion that consumed him when he held her dainty fingers in the vacant classroom.

Her flame of anger and despise for him. That literally turned into a battlefield.

The flame of words both spit through movie names,pani-puri eating competition.

Then came the Flame in which the sweet ''SORRY'' cake was baked.

The flames of temple's aarti which taught him lessons he never knew.

The flames of soul and body are now translating into words, into symbols. He is an ice of sorrow and she is fire of kindness, love. One glimpse of her ignites his eyes. The heat of her body melts the frozen parts of his heart. He walks through flames just to feel her warmth.

Frustration

I noticed that apart from the love, guilt, betrayal, love tests one emotion has made itself stand out--Frustration.

Yes! Sameer was always a frustrated individual. But then it is for Naina he is more frustrated now.Blame it on her paper-leak incident, the bench was kicked.Blame it on the cricket suspension, cycles were kicked.Blame it on her ignoring his ''haa'' ya ''naa'' conforming phone calls.Blame it on her goodness which she pours on him day in and day out.Even yesterday that pen stand was pushed and thrown because of frustration.

The whole aspect of BET stemmed because of frustration only.

Even Naina who is always cool and has much patient approach to every solution, seemed frustrated in recent times. She was frustrated with the lice,She was frustrated with destiny (That headlight sequence),she was frustrated with Kamya and she was frustrated with him for not getting her the teddy and the latest was with the boring night in trip.

Well frustration might seem to be a negative emotion but

''All love stories are frustration stories... To fall in love is to be reminded of a frustration that you didn't know you had (of one's formative frustrations, and of one's attempted self-cures for them); you wanted someone, you felt deprived of something, and then it seems to be there. And what is renewed in that experience is an intensity of frustration, and an intensity of satisfaction''.--Adam Philips.

It is their frustration that has made them conjure some beautiful moments. They mirror the osmotic relationship between presence and absence, with which every soul in love is intimately acquainted that parallel intensity of longing for each other's presence and anguishing in each other's absence.

In the Desert of love, when love was blossoming...

This life is a desert.Life is a long process of getting tired. But the will to carry on is what counts.Likewise love too is a wider, brighter, silent and yet demanding desert.

In search of both true love and oasis, there will be a lot of pretence and mirages. But in this journey by the time we have reached the destination we learn to differentiate between mirage and oasis.

Only when we are thirsty we search for an oasis, and being novice end up near mirage. Its just like 'love',somewhere we take the person for granted and the moment we lose them we realise the very importance they had held so long in our life,in our hopes,in our defeats,in our whole being.

Its all about relentless practice and patience. The journey to oasis from mirage is a difficult one, testing one and easily tiring too.Its the resolve to get to the destination is what shall make all the difference.

Sameer has a long road ahead.Lots of struggle to endure in this 'not-so-rosy' path.He at present is 'liking' her.Yes! He 'likes' her.

Sameer has a long road ahead.Lots of struggle to endure in this 'not-so-rosy' path.He at present is 'liking' her.Yes! He 'likes' her.

Call me crazy! But he definitely 'likes' her as of now and has not toyed with the idea of 'love'.He plucked the roses and gave her. When you like a flower, you pluck it.But when you love a flower, you water it..Naina has already watered the plant and its Sameer's turn to water the very rose he is trying to pluck and settle scores.

Naina has come a long way from being in a mirage of boring behenji to something being very basic in Sameer's life --as oasis--The store of water.Water which is synonymous with life.

Its Sameer's journey now to understand the difference between mirage and oasis and relentlessly pursue not only for the oasis but the very source of river that flows in the desert.

The Irony of Safety Pin

Though we are crazy shippers for sizzling scenes, down at heart we all love the beautifully shot scenes with symbolism and dollops of innocence. The pin' scene though defied a bit of logic but I found the symbolic connection intertwined with the scene on point. At the face value it was about trust' and promise' while it was also about the status of their relationship that was portrayed subtly.

A safety pin' is itself an irony. A pin can hurt', pierce and has the ability to draw out blood. It simply pierces inside. Then this pin is only which can fix' something in times of need. The pin which draws blood will be our safety' tool.Ironical.Isn't it.

Similar is their relation. He has been a safety pin in her life.He has already showed how a sharp, piercing pin he could be.He has pierced her heart, her soul badly. He has badly ripped their blossoming relation with 'pins'' like actions. And now he is trying to pin up the ripped relation.Trying to collect the shreds and attach them..He has transformed himself from a 'sharp pin'' to 'safety pin''.She still has apprehensions of him being a safety' option.

Its his duty now to act as a safety pin' which stitches something nor rips anything.

The confusion of this stance was well voiced by the background music"Tere Mere beech mein kaisa hai yeh bandhan anjanna.

Love Letters- Warmth and Intimacy

"A love letter can be very short or it can be long; it can be literary or non-literary; it can be bright or dark, cheerful or tragic. But above all, for a love letter to be a love letter it must be sincere!''

No matter how much we text on WhatsApp, Snapchat, or how many hours we skype, it is never same as a love letter. When it comes to expressing love, nothing beats the good old hand-written letter complete with stamps and sent via actual postal services.

The waits for the postman and cycle bells. The eternal longing urging to pull out the writer from the letter and hug him/her and the priceless happiness tracing their very handwriting, the words, the alphabets, the commas and full stops.

When we write a letter, we not only put our thoughts, but our heart in it. It shows the other person that we care, that we put that little extra effort of choosing a paper, selecting a pen, spending a little more time on writing, and walking those extra few metres to that post box.

From writing a simple "I love you ''to scribbling exquisite words, and walking that extra mile once. It will be worth it.

"I just miss you, in a quite simple desperate human way. I miss you even more than I could have believed; and I was prepared to miss you a good deal. So this letter is really just a squeal of pain''.

Can a simple emoticon will be able to bring out the emotion portrayed in above line...Na! Never.

Love letters offer a way to maintain and deepen intimacy, no matter which form they take.

In a world where communications are dominated by the internet, a handwritten letter is more intimate than ever before. Imagining each word as a gentle stroke that touches your lover's soul is a feeling no technology can provide.

Crossing the Thresholds:

The writers and creatives have time and again taken the basic ,mundane activities and have turned them into greater symbolisms. And I take up the symbolism of "crossing the thresholds by both Sameer and Naina.

Their destiny and ultimate fate depend upon their decisions for life they would choose right now.Tomorrow's joy and tomorrow's despair has its roots in decisions they make today. For Sameer it is not no more the time to stand at the threshold of life and wanting for the right time to change, its the time to cross the threshold and take matters in hand..about his life and both of their lives in whole.

With Sameer crossing the threshold of Naina's home,he already establishes himself as an insider from an outsider. This threshold is not only stepping into her world ;it is also crossing the threshold of superficial learning to deep learning motivated by engagement with nuances and challenges of a middle-class joint family. This transformation entailed an awakening ---and he fell in love.He fell in love with her world, with her people.

All beginnings are delightful, but the threshold is the place to pause.Naina s love phase days never raised a situation to cross a threshold'.But now she has crossed his home's threshold' to see his world, his not-so' people, his broken family. For both of them the phase is the pain of continuing'.The pain could have been alienated if both would have take the pain of stopping'.But they chose to continue and crossed each other's thresholds. And Yes! The thresholds that had been once forbidden to cross before a matrimonial bond. Its sheer Magic.Since Magic happens on the threshold of forbidden and now the seemingly unthinkable will start to be thinkable in real terms.

The hardest thing in life to learn is which bridge to cross and which to burn and it would not be mistake if we say the harder even is to choose which threshold to cross and where to pause. The beautiful symbolism of threshold didn't come in these latest episodes,I was glad to go back to the episodes and notice the continuation of threshold' symbolisms itself from the 'temple dates''.They together have stepped at 'door of faith''.They have crossed the threshold where the word of God and pure thoughts proclaim and the heart transforms into grace. They have entered the door crossing the threshold to set out on a journey that lasts a lifetime.

It really doesn't matter what happens between the starting line and the finish line, all that matters is "they have crossed both the intermediate thresholds.Infront the thresholds, lies a future pregnant with challenges .Challenges that are going to tickle with time just to give a hint that their potentials have no threshold limits. And there they would truly measure themselves and each other ;stepping across the threshold of unknown ,unthinkable and clearly challenging real world.

Bicycle-Love in Symmetry

A post based on a dream sequence and promo.

But none the less the bicycle' has been a beautiful symbolism since years in politics, sports and of course literature.Even philosophy and other branches of Science have dealt with idea of bicycle' with different and required approaches.

Naina plants a rose and then dreams of bicycle and then gives her hand willingly into his ... the faith has catapulted. Her faith imbued in this love has a strength and a blessing so large that she can travel as far as she wishes.Such is her faith now such is her dreams that follow the faith.

Coming to the cycle ride,it isn't just a matter of balance,it's a matter of faith. One can keep upright only by moving forward. You have to have your eyes on the goal, not the ground.

Both have to look forward to ensure they don't fall and fail each other. No more its looking at each other but looking forward in same direction with faith and security. To ride a bicycle is in itself some protection against superstitious fears, since the bicycle is the product of pure reason applied to motion.

They have to put their priorities balanced, emotions in symmetry and adjust individually to rolling times so that the cycle journey of life is never interrupted and failed.

You are likely to fall when you stop paddling your bicycle. Such is life. As long as you don't give up, you will never end up failing. This is the apex. When they don't give up on each other no matter how testing the trials are and transcending the tribulations are their story wins, they win.

None of us knows what might happen even the next minute, yet still we go forward. Because we trust. Because we have Faith.

And on a bicycle life is not a race, it's a journey..

2+2=5: Analysis of Analogy

In episode where Naina attempts suicide there is a reference in Naina's voice over of '2+2=5'.(If I remember it right, pardon me if this is false.)

But the analysis remains valid.

A very common phrase which questions reality and our basic mathematical ability.

The equation throws light on several aspects which is in relation to Sameer and Naina's love story so far and especially the circumstances that led to harsh step by Naina.

According to Italic Priest Antonio,Theology is not Mathematics.Theology is about God and real life.It also showed that divorced Catholics can remarry and return to Church.

Isn't this same as Samaina's story?

Divorced, separated in love but finally they united in the place of God.They returned to the place of faith and supreme force of Theology. All mathematical assumptions they had made failed.

The final reunion also proved what Veloso had written in his poem. Everything all right like 2+2 are 5.

Their life and love story is all right now (at this point of time).Just like 'All is well, that ends well."

In business texts, there is reference and I think this reference sums it all.

''Outcome of collective effort is greater sum of individual efforts''.

Their love story is not complete without the collective efforts of Munna,Pandit and Preeti.Kamy and Hema have their own share too.Naina rightfully acknowledges the efforts of Munna and Pandit and that proves how Sameer and Naina are not complete without their gang.

A symbol is always in general and, however precise its translation, an artist can restore to it only its movement: there is no word-for-word rendering. Moreover, nothing is harder to understand than a symbolic work. A symbol always transcends the one who makes use of it and makes him say in reality more than he is aware of expressing...--Albert Camus,The Myth Of Sisyphus
