I don't know but if u light a candle and cut the onions or if u dip the onions in water for some time before cutting them then ur eyes will not water.

Yar it is said that when you chew a gum, you force yourself to breath through your mouth and that prevents the irritant vapors of Syn-Propanethial-S-Oxide Enzyme from the skin of the onions to reach your tear glands (lachrymal glands) - thus preventing you from crying while chopping onions.

However, there are certain theories that this may have something to do with the movement of your jaws while cutting onions... some people say that if you talk or just move your jaws while handling onions, that also helps. So yea, the theory of chewing gum stands valid in this scenario too...

As for me, nothing works well and I am still waiting for that day when scientists will eventually develop/grow TEARLESS ONIONS! 😭😭 I wonder that Science has progressed so much... Scientists have discovered life beyond this planet... but they could not create a single Onion that does not cause trauma to my tear ducts!

I am dabbling with biryanis since I was 10 yrs old, so I peel off onions and emerse then in a litre of water for half an hr and then start cutting..they won't make u cry ..

didn't know about the candles, my trick is the same as harshadaholic. Also what Doc.love said is true...breathing through the mouth instead of nose helps...

Arshad was also wearing glasses :)
