about her struggle of battling through
depression. Now, in an interview with
News 18, Deepika's sister Anisha Padukone,
who is a golfer by profession, opened up
about how the family dealt with when
Deepika was diagnosed with depression.
Talking about her state, Anisha said,
"Honestly, it was difficult for me as I had
very little idea about mental illness and the
role of a caregiver. Coping with mental
illness affects both the individuals and
members of their immediate family."
Anisha also said that she was engulfed in
the feeling of helplessness and was clueless
about what to do. It was then that their
mother Ujjwala Padukone intervened.
"There was not much information available
where I could learn and equip myself to be
of help. There were times when I felt
helpless. Fortunately for us, my mother
noticed something was wrong. We then
approached a counsellor who is also a very
close family friend and things worked out,"
said Anisha.
She also stated how the Live Love Laugh
foundation started by Deepika Padukone to
help those suffering from depression is
helping out many there. Last year, in an
interview, the Padmaavat actress said that
there is constant fear of relapse. "I don't
think I can say that I'm completely over it
(depression). There is always a fear at the
back of my mind that I might have a relapse
because it has been such a bad experience
for me."
On the professional front, Deepika was last
seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat.
Her film with Irrfan Khan has been
postponed indefinitely. At the moment,
there are rumours floating of the actress
getting married to beau Ranveer Singh in
November this year.
