In 2015, Deepika Padukone opened up
about her struggle of battling through
depression. Now, in an interview with
News 18, Deepika's sister Anisha Padukone,
who is a golfer by profession, opened up
about how the family dealt with when
Deepika was diagnosed with depression.
Talking about her state, Anisha said,
"Honestly, it was difficult for me as I had
very little idea about mental illness and the
role of a caregiver. Coping with mental
illness affects both the individuals and
members of their immediate family."
Anisha also said that she was engulfed in
the feeling of helplessness and was clueless
about what to do. It was then that their
mother Ujjwala Padukone intervened.
"There was not much information available
where I could learn and equip myself to be
of help. There were times when I felt
helpless. Fortunately for us, my mother
noticed something was wrong. We then
approached a counsellor who is also a very
close family friend and things worked out,"
said Anisha.
She also stated how the Live Love Laugh
foundation started by Deepika Padukone to
help those suffering from depression is
helping out many there. Last year, in an
interview, the Padmaavat actress said that
there is constant fear of relapse. "I don't
think I can say that I'm completely over it
(depression). There is always a fear at the
back of my mind that I might have a relapse
because it has been such a bad experience
for me."
On the professional front, Deepika was last
seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat.
Her film with Irrfan Khan has been
postponed indefinitely. At the moment,
there are rumours floating of the actress
getting married to beau Ranveer Singh in
November this year.

I can absolutely understand what Anisha as I am going through the same. It gets difficult for the family members as well. You want to help but you aren't sure about it and what exactly to do.
You feel very helpless.

I can totally understand what Anisha mustve gone through... Having dealt with my Mom's depression issues... Families also need to be educated along with the treatment for the patient.

I am so glad that LLL foundation does so much for so many people out there... Proud of you Deepika...

It's the most hopeless situation to be in for that person going through it and also the family members trying to get that person out of it. Professional help is a must.

Naya drama.
How're they treating depression I want to know-her foundation I mean. Zoloft and Prozac have seen tremendous backlash. Now new drugs must be tested on conscious humans and use Indians as guinea pigs.

Depression is insidious & absolutely horrible & makes living difficult. Pls. Let's not mock a disease! I've seen someone very close to me go through it & it does make you feel helpless! DP anyway comes from a very close-knit & loving family so am sure it would've made her family feel at sea wrt to what to do for her.

I understand. It has been such a learning process with my brother. And it breaks your heart knowing someone you love so much is in such a sad place and there is very little you can do to fix it.
Let's look at all the lovely ignorant comments. This is why people need to be educated about mental illnesses.
