In the 90s, Bhatts were known for making quality films that were different, unconventional and had something unique about them.

I mean look at some of their well-known work in the 90s.
  • Aashiqui
  • Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahi
  • Sadak
  • Chaahat
  • Tamanna
  • Zakhm
  • Dushman
  • Ghulam
  • Sangharsh
How the hell they went from films like above, to films like Murder 3, Jannat 4, Raaz 5, Jism 7 etc ??

I must say they lost their craft and credibility drastically in the decade.

Their films are mostly considered soft-po*n and to an extent, that's how they promoted their films early 2000s and after a point, nobody took their films seriously. 😆

I found this old interview of Pooja Bhatt on YT. It was taken in 1997, some time before the release of Tamanna, her first venture as a producer.

The interview is more than 20 years old, but everything she spoke about is still relevant today. One hell of a interview I must say. 👏👏 Apart from the theme of the film, she spoke about the importance of quality cinema, indirect role of commercial cinema in paving a path for art films, responsibility of filmmakers towards the society etc. She also spoke about television as a platform.

Have a look.

Bhatts should be thankful to Alia now.
Though she doesn't in their films, but she's helping hem restore their credibility. 😆

TBH they didn't changed anything apart from the erotica.

They were ripping off HW movies in 90s and so did in 00s, just difference was post the super success of Raaz, and than Jism also doing good business and with the rise of Emraan Hashmi, they took the erotic formula and ran with it.

I don't know about other movies but NAAM and Sadak were defo not rip offs! And might I say were brilliant movies! So was dushmann! But unfortunately it didn't perform at the box office! Even though ashutosh rana won like god knows how many awards for it! I don't mind emraan hashmi movies at all! Some of his movies like kalyug and awarapan were absolute gems! Let's see how sadak 2 is! Let's see if Bhatt still has the magic left in him or not!

Mahesh Bhatt's early award winning movie, Saaransh wasnt a rip off, was it? Also Arth and Aashiqui were inspired by Bhatt's own love affair and love story
Naam and Sadak were also original stories I think
Mahesh Bhatt was a good director although he made copies of HW movies many times

His last directorial was the wonderfully funny Hum Hain Raahi Pyaar ke, copied from Houseboat...after that movie his mother died so he stopped directing and then Bhatt movies went the sleazy way with the help of their nephew Emraan Hashmi

All Mahesh Bhatt movies flopped after Hum Hain rahi pyar ke. Mahesh Bhatt couldn't take it and decided to retire from direction but along with his brother Mukesh Bhatt decided to become a producer mostly to disprove the star system, who he blamed for his flops. He said stars added too much financial burden to a project and guaranteed very little return. He was right, as Vishesh films took off after some initial setbacks with Murder and became a money spinning machine for it's investors, until it didn't. Sex, good music and ripped off Hollywood scripts on a tight budget, didn't earn much critical acclaim like a Sir or Saransh but it made the almost bankrupt Bhatts, rich.
MB might some day take up direction again but he promises he'll never work with a star, sorry Alia!

Arth, Naam and Saaransh are 80s movie and I am talking about 90s movies. Arth and Saaransh are masterpieces though and respect Bhatt for them.
Plus Naam isn't a Bhatt story, Bhatt directed it.
Sadak is taken from Taxi Driver, with Bollywood modifications.

Yeh Naam was written by Salim Khan, but the germ was from him, since he is also an illigetimae child, wouldn't call that a "rip off"

I have no idea about taxi driver, that could be true.

The original films of the murder, raaz, Jism, jannat series weren't exactly bad, even if they were soft po*n. But then they decided to release thousands of sequels of them and that's when the quality really went down the drain.

Since when did erotica mean that the movie isn't good? jism was an awesome movie! People need to open up their mind.
