For me a mainstream BW romantic movie has to include certain things.
1. Great music, like an entire album not just specific songs that are good that stands the test of time.
2. Picturesque locales.
3. Family element including rituals
4. Friendship element
5. Comedy
6. Breezy not preachy. Puts a smile on my face.
7. A hint of cheese and HEA.
8. Nice Dancing
9. Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemistry
10. Family watch and High Repeat Value
The last movie that had all this criteria was YJHD. I still play the songs, still a high repeat watch and it makes me happy.
ETA: An off beat romantic movie I still enjoy is Dum Lagake Haisha
