No, Surbhi, I agree with most of your comments, but Alexander does let Porus & Co. off when they escape from Faras. Hephaestion wants to chase them, and they could very well have caught them, but Alexander does not take up the chase.
So it is not that he could not catch them. He did not even try. It was a typical piece of stupidity. Of course it was essential for the CVs that Alexander's grey cells stopped functioning then, for nahin to inki bailgaadi wahin rukh jaati!😆
The Faras incident was a clear instance of Porus letting Alexander off. That was also foolish from the practical point of view. Chanakya would never have hesitated to decapitate Alexander as a preventive measure!😉
As for the second time, if Porus had killed Alexander under those circumstances, he could never again have raised his head and boasted of his morals and his sanskaars. It would have been a most cowardly thing to do, and totally unworthy of Porus. So there he had no choice.
