The show begins with Arpita a beautiful young Bengali housewife being brought by her husband Shubhankar to meet her InLaws

On the way she stops at a pooja mandap to pray to Durga maa
She is full term pregnant n slips on the steps ..she is supprted by a little boy who was at the temple next to her
The boy is called Shantanu
Arpita likes the boy n praises his mother for having such a nice son .
His mother thanks Arpita but thinks with teary eyes that where she came from children were mistakes or accidents n were unwanted .. And result of wrong doings ..
Scene moves to the locales of Sonagachi the infamous red light area of Kolkata

Shantanu takes tiny baby puchki in his arms and thanks Durga ma for fulfilling his wishes
