Ishaan Khatter is all set for his second
venture in the film industry with the
upcoming film Dhadak. The film also stars
debutante Janhvi Kapoor. Directed by
Shashank Khaitan, the film will release on
July 20, and is produced by Karan Johar.
Ishaan and Janhvi both come from well-
known families of the film industry. While
Ishaan is the son of veteran actor Neelima
Azeem and Rajesh Khatter, and also the half-
brother of Shahid Kapoor, on the other
hand, Janhvi Kapoor is the daughter of the
iconic actor Sridevi and famous film
producer, Boney Kapoor.
Owing to these industry connections, the
two have always come under the radar of
nepotism, and since the time the film was
announced, people have accused that the
two have bagged the film only because of
their family names. While Janhvi has earlier
spoken on the issue in many interviews,
now Ishaan has finally opened up and has
expressed his take on nepotism.
In a recent interview with The Indian
Express, Ishaan said, "I believe everybody
has their own destiny and will. To apply this
concept of nepotism to every person who is
related to films, I feel is generalisation. I
can't say in general people have it easier or
tougher, I can only tell you my experiences.
If I've to talk about myself, I am fortunate
and proud of the family I am from, not only
because it has given me opportunities to
work in films but because I have been able
to learn and derive so much from them
since a very young age. It's a personal
thing."
He further added, "I am passionate about
becoming an actor. I am lucky that I got to
learn from them and there's no resistance to
it. As far as opportunities go, Karan sir
(Karan Johar) met me. I don't think a man of
his experience will be careless with his
decisions. For my first film with Iranian
filmmaker Majid Majidi, he auditioned me
and he had no idea about my family
background. If anything, that knowledge
would have killed my chances as he didn't
want anyone to bring any baggage on the
sets. So, that's how my journey has been so
far."

Honestly, Ishan Khatter looks like a jamoora to me. Not dissing him but seriously. How he fits into the traditional Indian film hero role, will have to wait and see.

So Majidi wanted someone with no baggage of films, and Ishaan conveniently got to hide the fact that he came from a film background. That's right, because he had people who could help him do that, the casting director, for one.
"It was casting director Honey Trehan who told Ishaan to audition for Majidi's film."

Ah, how I wish outsiders would be personally asked to audition for films on recommendation from casting director.

Of course, again, it is only a mere coincidence that Honey Trehan also worked closely with Shahid Kapoor in his home production Mausam and Kaminey too.

Sad Ishaan is yet another one of those starkids who are delusional about equal opportunities and nepotism.

Boom. You can't get into that 10% category of natural beauties, which is very rare, but with money and grooming, anything is attainable - even good looks.

Basically, good looks - unless in that top tier of natural looks - is more about the lifestyle, fitness, and grooming.

I'm not saying he's ugly. A jamoora or jamura (Hindustani: or ) is a performer who plays a specific type of sidekick role in the traditional folk theatre of India and Pakistan.
He looks exactly like that to me. You know those family magicians and jugglers and gypsies. Just that it puts him into a special slot looks wise and very good for him for that particular role. Like Aladdin ka Chirag or some gypsy fantasy story or maybe even a pirate. I don't care about grooming or stuff either way. Just that his looks and body structure are like that.

Ditto. I don't know why they are so stupid about nepotism. It exists, it will always exist. It doesn't make an actor a bad person or even a lazy person if they benefit from it. It doesn't mean they lack talent. Just acknowledge the privileges. That is all. Why is that so hard for these people.

I had high hopes for Ishaan as a person. But seems like he is just like the rest. Lives in a bubble.

He is not ugly. (Also, Indian movie watchers are not very fond of handsome men). As long as one is charming, anyone can groom.

Sonam Kapoor was not exactly a beauty to begin with. But she had beautiful features, she had height. So, she could groom herself. If Anshula wants an acting career, she can groom herself too.

But Ishaan's limitation is his height, his small face. He can't change both. He will be okay to do teen age boy roles. But he will face a problem, when he has do matured roles. Also he has a very few choice amongst female leads, who can look as young as him.
But people like Varun can look good with Anushka too. (Not that, he is more handsome. But he has a more matured face).
