hey im going abroad for my studies in august area. Im really really excited about going without my parents and being independent. being able to manage everything on my own from a part time job to cooking every day. plus the point of meeting new ppl and going out whenever i want to.

but then again im anxious bout going there as well...like what if my views and theirs don't match. im a very straight- forward and honest person (too honest if u really wanan no). Although no one has ever discriminated me for being an Indian, im worried what if they do. since it never happened to me i dont how to manage my situation. please give me sopme nice advice on how to deal on living alone in a place...which may be a cultural shock to me?

Living away from home is such a brilliant option, I live two away from home in a student house, there is a culture shock at the beginning cos people are different and u get used to is. I have lived with my 'white' housemate for three years and being muslim I've explained my religion to them, some of them are like 'wow' cos they've never heard of muslims, but just cos ur indian doesnt mean that ur any different to the other students and they soon realise that. I'm in my third year and its like 'wow, what an experience'

You grow and learn loads away from home and it's suprsing cos then u respect ur parents more for the things that they do for you, cos u realise what it's like being independent and spending your own money on things, it's not as easy as it sounds.

You'll be fine, just be open and yourself and dont try and change to much to accomodate others needs. And before u know it your three years are done
