Mumbai, June 20 -- Having a successful show on air for over a year is a big deal," says Hussain Kuwajerwala, who is thrilled that his sitcom has garnered appreciation from the audiences and enough ratings to keep the channel happy.
He says, "In today's times, when shows are axed within three months for not delivering expected ratings, to have a show for a year is quite exciting. One should feel happy about the outcome that your hard work has borne fruit. I returned to acting in a TV show after a hiatus and it felt good. Coming back with renewed energy was wonderful. I am glad to be part of a show that excites me to go to work every morning. The energy on the set is infectious and we all entertain each other all day."
Hussain gained popularity on the small screen with his role in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Back then, the actor was also noticed for being handsome and till date he has maintained himself.
"I get uncomfortable when people talk about my looks. And as far as looks vis-a-vis acting is concerned, I feel looks can take you only so far. After making that first impression, what you can do in front of a camera matters the most. Moreover, it is not necessary that you are conventionally good-looking in this industry. There are many actors and actresses who might not have great looks or body but they have made their mark. In our country, there is space for everyone as there is beauty in everyone," he adds.
Many young actors feel that six-pack abs are essential for an actor but Hussain opines that "it might be an attraction" but not necessarily a prerequisite. "Look at Ranbir Kapoor. He has proved himself without six packs. Not everyone needs it and neither does every role," he says.
The actor says content on TV has exploded and there is too much choice for the audience.
He says, "Television's reach is increasing every day. Digital content, too, has opened up new avenues but its influence is not that widespread, yet. Sure, people are consuming content on the go but the number of audiences is less as compared to television. Digital is the future for sure. The kind of content out there is enormous and varied. If there is too much content, social media and peer reviews will influence choices. The best shows will survive. And the best part with digital content is that some interesting shows, which might not have found space on TV will get a chance to thrive online."
