I had to type this update to cheer up myself. So please forgive me if you find this update boring.
The doorbell rang as Munna rushed to open the door. Sameer and Naina barged in and Munna showed them the way to the kitchen, where he had already kept everything ready, as Naina had instructed him while they were on the way.
"Tum oven preheat kr doge? Tab tak main batter bana du" she asked Sameer while tying her hair into a bun. He nodded and switched on the oven to preheat it.
"By the way, Munna, tune oven kab liya? Bataya bhi nhi" he asked as Munna blushed.
"Ab Swati ko shaadi k liye propose krne ka soch rha hu, to ghar pe samaan to basana pdega na" Sameer chuckled at his reply.
"Birthday to yaad nhi rehta, shaadi krne chale h!" the sarcasm was evident in Naina's voice. He forgot her friend's birthday and she would remain salty about it.
"Kuch candles vagera ka intezam kiya h ki nhi?" she asked while adding baking powder to maida. Munna nodded and took out a simple yellow candle from a cabinet and a matchbox. Naina rolled her eyes on seeing that candle, but well, something is better than nothing.
"Yaar, tum log cake banao. Tab tak main koi gift dhundhta hu Swati k liye" Munna went to his room to find something which he could gift Swati. He had already committed a disaster and now wanted to manage it as much as possible.
Meanwhile, Naina was mixing the batter and Sameer just stood there with nothing to do. He wanted to help but didn't know how. Naina saw him playing with a spatula, and asked "kar kya rhe ho tum!?"
"Ab sab to tum kr rhi ho, mere paas kuch nhi h krne ko" he replied sadly. She didn't admit but she did find it cute.
"Accha lo, ye batter ko mix krte rho. Main tin ko grease kr deti hu" his eyes twinkled and she passed the bowl containing the batter, to him.
She looked everywhere, searching for the tin, but didn't find it. Irritated, she called out to Munna, "Ab ye tin kahan h?"
"Upar wale cabinet mein" Munna shouted from the room. Naina opened the cabinet and tried to get the tin, but her hand didn't reach it. She stood on her tip toes to reach the height but still couldn't do that.
Sameer saw her struggling and smirked. "Help chahiye?" he asked but she denied. "Thik h. Araam se bhav kha lo, pet bhar jaye to mujhe bol dena. Tin utar dunga"
She made a face and again tried to get the tin. And again failed. Tired, she finally decided to ask him for help. "Tin utar do" she mumbled, loud enough for him to hear, and moved aside.
He grinned and came forward and gave her the tin. "Itti chhoti height aur itti badi ego!" he teased her.
"Itti bhi chhoti height nhi h meri" she frowned. "Ab baatein chhodo. Batter ho gya mix?" she asked while taking some butter in her hands to grease the tin with it.
"Hmm, ye lo" he pushed the bowl towards her. She picked it up, but it slipped due to the butter on her hands.
"Oh no!" she shouted, but sighed in relief as she realised that Sameer had already caught the bowl in his hands. "Thank God!" she whispered while Sameer corrected her, "Thank me!"
"Kya ho gya? Chillayi kyu Naina?" Munna rushed to the kitchen, hearing Naina shout.
"Bowl girne wala tha, maine bacha liya" Sameer spoke, proud of himself.
"Please yaar, ab koi gadbad mat krna" Munna pleaded. Sameer and Naina were throwing daggers at him.
By the time the cake was ready, it was 11:30 pm. Three of them rushed to the car and sped off to Swati's house. Standing outside Swati's building, at 11:58, Munna dialed her number and asked her to come down.
When Swati was coming towards them, she seemed miffed and angry. Probably because Munna hadn't wished her yet. But all her anger vanished when she saw the cake on the bonnet of the car.
Exactly at 12, Munna lit the candle and he, along with Sameer and Naina, sang the happy birthday song for Swati, while she blew the candle and cut the cake. She fed Munna, Naina and Sameer.
After the cake cutting was done, Naina thought that they should leave Swati and Munna alone for sometime. She took Sameer along with her and they sat in the car, giving their friends some privacy. After a brief silence, Naina spoke "Thank you" Sameer looked around to see if anyone else was there, to whom Naina said this.
"Tumhe hi bol rhi hu" she frowned at his antic. He was shocked at this.
"Thank you! Mujhe! Oh my God! But kyu?" he continued his over-acting.
"Tumhari help k liye" she honestly replied, "Swati ko bohot bura lagta agar use pata chalta ki Munna uska birthday bhul gya" she added.
"Hmm.. Warna aaj to breakup ho jata bechare ka" he chuckled, leaning on the seat.
"You know what, tum itte bhi irritating nhi ho jitta maine socha tha" she giggled at the expression he had, listening to her statement.
"Ye tarif thi ya beizzati?" he asked, making her laugh. "Dono" she said amidst her laughter.
"OK, ab ek genuine tarif, tum dost bohot acche ho" she admitted while smiling softly. He smiled back.
Her phone buzzed and she took it out to check the notification. She was surprised to see Sameer's request on social media. She chuckled.
"Ab ye kya h?" she raised her eyebrows in question. "Friend request" he shrugged.
"Tumhe to friend zone nhi hona tha" she asked as she too leaned back.
"Social media pe friends banna friend zone nhi hota" he spoke as a matter of fact, making her giggle.
"Okay, waise bhi I don't believe in friend zoning. Pata nhi logo ko dosti se kya problem h? Sab direct love pe pahuchna chahte h! Kisi ko jane bina, usse dosti kiye bina, uske sath zindagi kaise guzaroge? Adhe log to zindagi sath bitana hi nhi chahte!" she sighed, accepting his request while he was looking at her with a small smile.
"Tum ekdum different ho. Main to fida ho gya" he said placing his hand on his heart. She face-palmed, "tum phir shuru ho gye"
Munna came to them, after talking to Swati, and they left, after Swati went inside her building. Munna thanked Sameer and Naina while sitting at the back. They sped off to Munna's house, and after dropping him, Sameer and Naina left for Shalu aunty's house. When they reached there, the found that the door was locked from inside.
"Oh no, ab hum andar kaise jayenge?" spoke Naina, now tired. Shalu aunty had a strict rule of locking the main door by 12 pm.
Sameer went around the house, looking for a way to get inside. After a minute, he called Naina, "yahan dekho, humare room ki khidki khuli h" Naina's eyes lit up and she mumbled a Thank God. They decided to climb up the pipe, which was beside their window, and enter the room. Sameer climbed first and Naina followed. "Sambhal k chadna" he said as he pulled the half opened window, opening it fully. He jumped inside the room and exhaled in relief.
"Mujhe to andar lo" Naina called from outside. Sameer quickly turned and held out his hand to help her, "haath pakdo aur aa jao"
"Giraoge to nhi?"
"Bilkul nhi"
She held his hand firmly and he pulled her in. Both of them were extremely tired, and immediately fell on the bed.
"Bhook lagi h mujhe to" Naina could literally hear her stomach growl.
"Lekin abhi kya khayenge. Is waqt to order bhi nhi kr sakte" he sat up on the bed, "cake bhi Swati k paas reh gya" he huffed placing his palm under his chin.
"Aunty k kitchen mein dekhein, shayad kuch mil jaye" Sameer asked but Naina denied saying "jaan le lengi wo"
"Arey unhe nhi pata chalega. Ruko main leke ata hu" he silently sneaked out and few minutes later, came back with a box of cookies. Naina's eyes literally twinkled seeing cookies.
"Thank you so much" she said as she quickly grabbed the box and opened it. Both of them sat in the bed and placed the box in the middle.
"Dosti kiye shuruwat meethe k sath" Sameer said while taking a cookie in his hand and offering it to Naina.
"Arey, abhi to sirf virtual dosti hui h, asli mein kahan hui" Naina giggled while she took a bite of the cookie.
"Hadd h nakhron ki" he muttered.
"Suna maine"
"To.." he extended his hand, "friends?"
"Tumhe bohot jaldi h na.." she narrowed her eyes at him, but then shook hands with him, "Friends"
