Veere Di Wedding Has Very Good First Day

Veere Di Wedding had a very good first day of 10.75-11 crore nett apprx which is hugely unexpected. It is the highest opening day ever for a film without a major male lead beating the numbers of Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Mary Kom. There have been films like Ragini MMS 2 and Jism 2 which have opened as strongly if not better than Veere Di Wedding in the morning but they have not gone to sustain through the day like Veere Di Wedding.
The job is basically done for the film as with this start its a commercial success because after the weekend business all its costs will be recovered and on top the solid early numbers from Overseas are a bonus. The novelty of women mouthing expletives has given this film an initial boost that is unthinkable. There are examples of erotic thrillers with female leads getting initial boosts but this sort of expletives in an urban female driven film is a first for the Hindi film industry.
This has enabled the makers to be in the clear but for the director and artistes to really benefit the film must also find some appreciation with the audience and cannot afford to just filter out after this big start. The youth has come in a big especially young females with some multiplexes reporting a higher ratio of females compared to males which is very rare in Hindi cinema and the next few days will tell how this audience has appreciated the film.
The collections on the first day show the normal trend and its not as if they fell in the evening so it will be expected to trend well but the weekend collections bring families into play and this could be the test for the film. This is the audience which takes those medium budget films like Sonu Ke Tito Ki Sweety and Raazi to those big numbers and if this film gets some acceptance from the families then it will no doubt go on to be a major HIT.
The other release Bhavesh Joshi Superhero had poor collections of 25-30 lakhs nett and the director has done this before with Udaan (29 lakhs) and Trapped (25 lakhs) and obviously makes cinema that no one wants to see but the industry takes a lot of time to learn that facts and figures rarely lie.
