I don't think KK is responsible for the murder.
KK's direct association is only because of the airline deal which Prabhakar advised him against. Prabhakar felt let down when KK decided to go ahead with the deal, hence he resigned. Sid is going to find this out via the resignation letter and will feel let down by KK. Misunderstandings ka siyappa will begin!!!
The below analysis is purely speculative based on observations and guesswork-
Role of KK, election and the Chinese...
KK has ambitious plans regarding upcoming elections! I don't why but I feel he is trying to use the
Chinese to rig the upcoming elections. Why?
Intention maybe to run a parallel government under his control which will give him power and money which his ambition. His past from coal mines era - has something to do with it. He may have been a leader of some sought but may have had some bitter experience due to which he could attend immediate success (power and/ or money). Rao was always with him. He may have found a diamond invested and slowly climbed the ladder. At this time he may have bumped into Prabhakar (when he was a state prosecutor) their paths may have crossed, they end up helping each other due to their circumstances...It's interesting to note when Anu returns from US and KK meets her the first time, he says u r my 'Heera'.."KK tumko Koyle ke khan se le aaya"...after seeing Anu interact with the orphan kids, I was wondering if she is an adopted child...she may have been born around the same time as Kartik- (hence they call them twins;). When Sid discovers this truth will this set him free from all the misunderstandings he has or he may in the future!

Usually one is always with one's trueself in front of God or in front of the mirror. Yesterday KK was praying in front of God, maybe his true self was exposed there, hence he was startled. KK's truth past or present maybe known to Neeta and she helps him cover up or has been his accomplice in the past..(.implied by helping him with the coat ).
