DISHA PATANI ROPED IN FOR SALMAN KHAN'S BHARAT

The actress has been signed for Ali Abbas Zafar's Eid 2019 release in which she plays a trapeze artiste
The Ali Abbas Zafar-directed 2019 Eid release, Bharat, has a new addition to the cast. Riding high on the success of the Dhoni biopic and the more recent Baaghi sequel, Disha Patani will be joining Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra who are reuniting a decade after Rumi Jaffrey's God Tussi Great Ho in 2008, and Sunil Grover. She plays a trapeze artiste in a 1960s circus, a strong character pivotal to the story.
The film, which kicks off in July, is an official adaptation of the 2014 South Korean drama, Ode To My Father, which depicted modern Korean history from the 1950s to present-day through the life of an ordinary man and events such as the Hungnam Evacuation during the 1950 Korean War, the government's decision to dispatch nurses and miners to West Germany in the '60s and the Vietnam War. According to Atul Agnihiotri, who is producing the film with Bhushan Kumar, Bharat starts in 1947 and ends in the 2000s, while tracing the journey of both the protagonist and the country.
The circus segment is Ali's ode to his childhood idol Raj Kapoor's 1970 cult film, Mera Naam Joker. The semi-autobiographical film was Kapoor's most ambitious project and at four hours four minutes, one of the lengthiest Hindi films. It revolved around a clown and the life of other circus artistes.
"The pairing of Salman and Disha in a circus set-up in the '60s is unusual and exciting. She is a promising star and for this character, we needed a girl who looked vulnerable and beautiful yet had the physicality of an athlete. Disha fit the bill perfectly, asserts Ali.
The film which is a hat-trick for its maverick director and its leading man after Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai, will be shot across locations in Abu Dhabi and Spain, besides Punjab and Delhi in India. The role will require Disha, who is just a couple of films old, to learn the ropes of the circus trade as trapeze artistes are known for their skill and agility. The actress, who trained in martial arts and is now taking lessons in swordfighting for C Sunder's historical, Sangamithra, is looking forward to the exhaustive prep.
"I'm excited to be a part of Bharat, it's like a dream come true to get an opportunity to work with Salman sir and I can't wait for the journey to begin. I am a big fan of Ali Abbas sir's work, says Disha.
