Bepannah ~my thoughts ~ ep 37~8.5.18 Come up to expectations!
Everyone has some expectations either of themselves or in others. To begin with parents have high expectations from their children. They predict ,expect and hope their children as adults will reflect, sound familial values they were nurtured in by their elders. It's like a known cycle , that the from the closest to us we expect, that they will live up to all the expectations we invest in them. Which is an unrealistic stance, as our lives are subject to change any hour.
The episode, thus is about set expectations not being met. People's predictions proved wrong and hopes being dashed. There are however, some expectations that come true beyond the wildest of anticipations! Like Mahi turning starry eyed over Aditya when he saves her from the gangsters!
Aditya lives up to his own predictions, that the source of getting a worthwhile reaction out of Zoya is to go through the medium of Mahi, as much as he finds it distasteful. In the fight sequence. Although Mahi is glued to his chest. Aditya's roving eye only lingers and savours Zoya's frantic reaction over Mahi getting bruised. Like a child he flashes his cut palm. But like he predicts, Zoya will play frigid. But he'll take it all in a stride as long as he can make out, that blood continues to flow through her veins!
Mahi lives up to her our expectations, this going gaga over Adi..is it for real? or is she in love? or is she doing what she does best. Torture Zoya and confuse the audience? mind you is this Mahi equation as the third wheel between Zoya and Adi of any significance? Is Adi and Mahi reducing closeness making Zoya jealous??Thus prompting emotional gravitation between Aditya and Zoya?
Living up to his father's low expectations of him! Is seen at the family dining table where Adi shocks everyone's expectations when he smiles and joins them! his smile though is for people who rally for him. While his surly sarcasm is for those who just about tolerate him. Adi loves to give, impressive hope. That after a gap, the old Adi returns. Basically he skirts around family emotions, in his terse, half comical manner. Its his defensive mechanism that Arjun refers to as a radio jockey !
Sakshi lives up to Anjana's expectations, that she will placate Adi's emotional uproar. As Anjana has implied it was Sakshi's daughter who ruined her son's life . Adi's smile at the dining table, triggers testing the waters , with Adi over a cup of coffee with her. But Adi drastically falls short of Sakshi's expectations. She safely anticipated, Pooja not signing the divorce paper, has given Adi a sense of moving on. She is wrong of course. As Aditya retorts. Pooja may not have signed! but her intent to leave him was more than obvious! She still filed the divorce papers, regardless of her signature missing!
Waseem at the station argues, about living up to meeting his good family name sake which forbids him to taking Yash's life! Waseem explains, his so called threatening phone call to Yash was to do more with Yash's fast downward spiralling business! It's sad to note Waseem's low expectations of Zoya.. as more or less Waseem denies having anything to do with Zoya or Yash! Waseem needs to make sure he doesn't fall short of getting himself off the hook! He is still under scrutiny to see if his excuses provide enough evidence to bail him out of the sticky situation.
Looks like all Siddiqui's are going through a bad patch. Father under suspicion for murder. Zoya feebly coming to terms with her being cheated issue. Noor feels Mahi or Aditya are draining away the attention that her sister Zoya needs to give her! She shows signs of typical human behaviour to expect more from their loved ones, then face disappointment if expectations remain unfilled. Both Zoya and Noor need to find a happy medium where both their needs are met. Zoya certainly needs to wake up to Mahi's guile that Noor sees but Zoya is blind too.
One siblings loses hope! While the other restores hope. Arjun's radio host scene reiterates the positivity of his character. That of building bridges rather than burning them. All things point in the right direction.
Three emotionally needy, people! let down by life. Somehow get their respite through the radio waves. Arjun has the voice. Good communicative skills to interact with a larger audience. A knack to think outside the box. Plus to three particular listeners he reaches out as a radio host. A complete stranger who offers them advice on personal problems, either to a caller he loves! Or two distant silent listeners, he manages to heal.
Arjun's manages to offer differentiated treatment to Adi ,Zoya, and Noor, according to their own needs. Where the sisters hug and make up. Adi is relayed Pooja's message through Arjun. Expect ,hope, anticipate for love to find you.
Meanwhile Adi's sorrow is not rejected either, by the unknown radio jockey in his use of pain as a reason to force him to live. Emotional pain is acceptable, provided, ,in time it stops Adi from being smothered by long term bitterness . Which may make Aditya miss the arrival of love when it does seek him out...
Arjun's words of wisdom gently veer Adi to view things differently. Instead of blaming Pooja for expectations she fell short off in his eyes. Perhaps its better to mull on reasons to do with him, that led to their split. This way there is self evaluation, that may very well lead to avoiding or not repeating one's past mistakes, again.
Over all a thought provoking episode. For me the best bit is when Aditya bellows he hates back stabbers and cheaters! His reference is for Zoya , who trusts Mahi who is yet again her cheater husband's sister... attacking people from behind seems to be the Arora forte! In time he anticipates, Zoya will discern that she expects much from the wrong people.. hamlet53 9.5.18
