'Magical' is how I would describe this post!❤️
You have beautifully presented Sam's journey from Day 1.Aah, loved this post Pooja di!I have only watched a few hindi shows and according to that, Sameer Maheshwari is the best male character I have ever seen, with his own flaws but still perfect for our heart. His character growth has been immense during the post bet track- where the boy turned into a true gentleman.Truly an enigma he is!😳 Making us wonder always about him and mind you, we can't get enough of him too.
absolutely great post- but to add to this.. there is an inherent flaw in this character.. that makes him who he is..
right from the beginning he has always needed validation for everything.. not a bad thing.. but we have to take into consideration when we are doing character sketch..be it nanu to guide him or mundit to bring him back from the bet phase and making him realize that he needs to own it now..or again mundit for the bad boys gang slapor nanina in that phone call after the returning to delhi to learn to live with one and all and keep his emotions in check..or naina again asking him to be strong and face all and the winner in this phase..he has always needed someone to stand by him to guide him...all these people are integral part of him.. without them he gets lost-- delhi bad habbits-- delhi rebel-- betting time..He is absolutely adorable but its his life lines around him that make him- the Sameer Maheshwari.would you guys agree?
Very good post Pooja. 😃
All the details of incidents in Sameer's life and the changes they brought in him is described very well.
I think I have done a lot of research in Sameer's character for my stories. So here are my thoughts on some of his basic qualities -
First and foremost, I do not see a person by the incidents in his life, but rather I see him as a set of characteristics. There traits either come to the fore or are suppressed by the happenings in his life.
One quality that I love the most in Sameer is his determination.
He was so determined to win the bet that he left aside everything and devoted his time and energy to know Naina. Later when he realized how much he had hurt her, he used the very same determination to heal her step by step, peeling of the layers of anger, hatred, pain one by one and replacing them with gestures of his love. Once he was successful, he was then determined to take the relationship to another level - he wasn't satisfied with a passive partner. He sought reciprocation in terms of love confession and then the handhold. While being in Delhi, once he determined to change himself and adjust, he did and is doing everything possible to make his place in a household where he knows that he might not be completely accepted ever.
This determination can also cause harm. It did once when even after realizing his own hesitation in fulfilling the bet, he still continued to go on with it until the very end when he was too late to control the damage. And now again, it can cause harm, if he succumbs to his mistaken belief about being unlucky and is determined to stay away from Naina.
Another quality in him is his sense of righteousness.
He has a set of beliefs that he stands up for without fail. He doesn't let his friends come to any harm because of him. He is always mindful of the basic upbringing he has been given and adheres to it. Once he realizes that he is wrong he doesn't step back from accepting his fault, bearing the consequences, and then doing everything to rectify. All this came in handy during his stay in Ahmedabad, earning his friends, the love of his life, and set of people who believed in him and started appreciating him. In Delhi also, he has started to gain the acceptance from a part of family because of these very attributes.
Finally, I find him to be gullible at times.
This could be because of the way his childhood has been. He is so eager to gain acceptance because of his lonely childhood. He craves attention and is like the innocent child who can be lured with a colourful candy. During the bet phase, when Naina was showering him with attention, he believed Munna and Pandit when they said that she had fallen in trap of his charms and wants to be kissed by him. He tried, and the resulting slap made him realize that he shouldn't have listened to his friends' advice and it changed his perspective about Naina. In Delhi, this attribute caused him harm, because his attention seeking self was lured by those boys under the guise of friendship. He kept quiet, unwillingly went along with them, because they were providing the attention and appreciation that he was craving at home. When Munna and Pandit, this time came as guiding angels, he understood his mistake and did his best to come out of the situation. Two different incidents, wherein one he learned to believe his heart when it came to Naina, and in another one he learned to pay attention to his own instincts.
There are other traits as well, like his temper, his aggression, his possessiveness - he needs to channel these in the right direction. Nanu and Naina were giving him that guidance. But now he needs to do it on his own for the first time in Delhi, and he is learning slowly, by stumbling, by falling, but he is learning... And he will keep on learning this way only because he is missing that guiding light from his life as of now. His mother, although now bonding much better with him, cannot take the place of Nanu or Naina. They understood Sameer like an open book, while for his mother he is still a book she has just started to read.
Personally, I do not think his character is taking a nosedive. He is still the "same set of qualities", just the way those are being put to use is different. Once he realizes what is the correct way to channel his qualities, he will be back in game - and we as audience here need to think that isn't this how life always is? Would we have always made the correct choice if we were in his shoes? Would we have been able to grow without any mistakes if we didn't have the guiding lights in form of our parents or guardians?
Just because the good use of his characteristics was shown to us before the negative way doesn't mean Sameer is no longer the correct person at heart or the person we connected with earlier. In fact, this very uncertainty makes him more human and less of a fiction to me. 😳
