Anika walked into their room to find her phone. She had misplaced it, yet again, and knew that if she didn't find it soon, Shivaay will give her a nice lecture about the 'importance' of keeping the phone with her safely, all the time. Yes, that very man who throws his phone every other day.
Unable to find it, she was about to move out of the room when she heard Shivaay's phone ringing. Walking towards it, she saw an unknown number flashing on it. It was a video call, so she guessed it might be one of his clients. She called out to him only to receive no answer. Making a quick decision, she swiped it to pick the call and hid, waiting for the other person to come on screen.
Since the stalker woman's incident, she had become a little more conscious of her surroundings. Her mind was about to drift off to the incident again but she heard a familiar voice calling out meekly, for Shivaay.
Immediately turning towards the screen she found Pinky looking hopefully towards the screen. When she saw Anika, her smile faltered a bit and Anika misunderstood the reason why Pinky had become upset. Before Anika could say anything, Pinky laughed bitterly.
"Oh My Maata! Mera lucks toh dekho. Mera number toh Shivaay na dial karta hai na kabhi utha ta hai, unknown numbers pe bhi uski shakal naseeb nahi hoti."
[Oh My Maata! See how unlucky I am. Shivaay neither dials my number nor does he pick my calls. Even using a unknown number doesn't let me see his face.]
"Pinky Aunty, ek minute rukiye, Shivaay neeche kahi hai. Main abhi unhe phone deti hu!" Anika assured her. She was Anika and she knew what a Mother- Son bond is. How important a mother is. She won't let Shivaay drift apart from the woman who loves him so much.
[Pinky Aunty, give me a minute. Shivaay is somewhere downstairs. I'll quickly give him the phone.]
"Oh My Maata Anika! Yeh kya bol rahi hai? Ab tu bhi mujhse baat nahi karna chahti?"
[Is it that even you won't talk to me now?]
Anika looked at the screen in confusion.
"Main apni bahu se baat bhi nahi kar sakti?" Pinky softly added and Anika shook her head negatively. Then positively and started chuckling amidst the tears that had formed.
[Can I not even talk to my daughter-in-law now?]
Rubbing them off quickly, she smiled. "Aisi baat nahi hai Pinky Aunty, kyu nahi kar sakte aap mujhse baat? Anika toh sabse baat karti hai. Aap toh Shivaay ki maa hain."
[It isn't like that Pinky Aunty, why can't you talk to me? Anika can talk to everyone, definitely with Shivaay's mom.]
Pinky flinched a little when Anika still hesitated to call her, her mother-in-law. It would take a long time for the wounds to heal. They were wounds given by Pinky Singh Oberoi after all. She smiled ruefully.
"Accha bata, kaise ho tum dono? Acche se khana kha rahe ho kya?"
[Okay tell me, how are both of you? Having your food properly?]
Anika's face fell a little at that.
"Aunty, pata hai, mai ekdum faltu GL hun."
[Aunty, you know, I keep telling that I am terrible when it comes to being the perfect GL.]
"GL?"
"Grihlakshmi."
"Oho Anika. Mujhe nahi pata tha tu itni stupids hai."
[I didn't know you were so stupid!]
"Huh?" Anika felt her heart sinking again.
"Buddhu! Meri bahu yeh ghar ke kaam thodi karegi. Start your event managing agains. Main keh rahi hun, Shivaay ko peeche chod degi."
[My daughter-in-law isn't supposed to do house chores. Start with the event management business again. I am telling you, you'll easily leave Shivaay behind.]
Anika stared at the screen in shock. The Pinky Singh Oberoi was saying that Anika could beat Shivaay at something. The happiness that was surging through her right now was unexplainable.
Even Pinky realised how awkward it had become. There was something nagging her and she wanted it out. Taking a deep breath, she cleared her throat.
"Anika, ek requests karu?"
[Anika, can I request something?]
"Aunty, why are you even asking?"
"Pata hai mujhe ki maine tere saath jo kuch bhi kiya hai, Shivaay ke saath jo bhi kiya hai, uski koi maafi nahi hai."
[I know whatever I have done with you, with Shivaay, it isn't forgivable.],
Anika shook her head vigorously.
"Jhoot mat bol. Par haan, agar kabhi tune mujhe maaf kar diya na, toh trys karna, aur mujhe Shivaay ki tarah Mom' bulana." Wiping a tear, she added, "Matlab jaise pehle bulata tha."
[Don't lie. But yeah, if you could ever forgive me, try to call me 'Mom', just like Shivaay does.] [I mean, like he used to.]
Anika's words died in her throat. She had so much to say right now, she wanted to hug her mother in law right now, she wanted to revel in this new found feeling for longer. How she wished they weren't talking on video call right now. She tried saying something, lest Pinky misunderstands her, but Pinky only kept smiling at her. Anika blinked rapidly, to not let the tears fall, but they did anyways. Betrayed.
"Aunty..." she softly tried.
"Can I call you, 'Maa'?" Anika asked as she fidgeted a little with her fingers.
Pinky's eyes widened at the quick forgiveness. She had given Anika all the time in the world and Anika took not more than a few seconds.
Her mind wandered to the scene she had witnessed from afar. When Anika had asked Shakti if she could call him Papa. Pinky's smile widened and she bobbed her head up and down with excitement, her mouth pressed into a thin line, stopping herself from crying.
Anika quickly wiped her tears and asked Pinky to do the same. They talked for quite some time until Shivaay finally came to see what had happened to his 'tornado' of a wife.
Anika had just cut the call and Shivaay looked in confusion at her sudden happy mood which turned into a frown when she saw her phone in his hands.
She grinned as she realized that Shivaay had unknowingly helped her reconcile with the woman who once adored her. With her Maa.
