Last few weeks had passed in what felt like the blink of an eye, now there was only one week left for the marriage and the preparations were going on in full swing. It was decided that the wedding would be Christian themed and the rest would be traditional, invites were to be sent to very close relatives and a few business partners as Dev wanted it to be as simple as possible.
Maan, Naina and Dadi had given their list of "Very close relatives"
'This is almost everyone we know, how do they fit into close relatives'
Dev had signed in a defeated manner after seeing their evergrowing list.
'We haven't met Brinda chachi in 15 years, I don't see why we have to invite her' he had told.
'EXACTLY! We haven't met in 15 years Dev, what would they say behind our back if we do not even invite them' Dadi had replied.
Naina who seemed like she was in deep thought would bite the pen until her eyes would twinkle and she would write down the names she would remember, he had just grimaced looking at Naina's list which was increasing in length every 2 minutes.
Maan's list was the smallest of them all he had concluded
'Atleast he understood the need of privacy I needed'
he thought smiling at his little brother until he saw the edge of the page marked as 4.
'Umm... Maan, what's that 4 there at the edge of the page?' he asked.
'Oh that! It's the 4th page bhai, I've kept the first 3 pages down here' he pointed towards the drawer.
Dev's heart almost sunk at the sight of the lists being prepared.
'It's okay' he had comforted himself,
'Geet's incharge of sending the invites, I bet she'll understand what I have in mind' but to his dismay Geet had put her foot down and sent the invitations to each and everyone in the list.
The morning after the not-so-famous "HUG", Geet had sincerely thanked Maan as he had stood there gawking at her and looking quite dazed. Now-a-days she had caught him looking at her almost everyday... scratch that everytime they were in the same room, feeling concerned about it she had gone straight to him and asked if he was alright, and that he should take medications.
'I'll talk to Dadima if you want, we wouldn't want your hallucinations to be part of something very serious' she had told.
He had gaped at her first, she had confused his daydreamy look of his towards her to be something grave, and then he had looked around in the room to find Naina trying really hard to control her laugh. He had somehow managed to convince Geet that he was fine and there was nothing to worry about, though she didn't look very convinced she had left the room.
'So devar ji, since when has this been going on?'
Naina asked to which he had blabbered something incoherent and excused himself out
'You better keep her happy, you stupid...'
before she could finish the sentence Maan had come running back with his face almost red due to embarrassment
'Could you keep your tone a bit low? I don't want anyone to know about it unless Geet agrees'
'Have you tried telling her? Lemme guess,' she acted as if she was engrossed
'NO since you look like a cat caught your tongue whenever she speaks to you these days' she had ended, he sat down opposite to her
'Is it that obvious?' he had asked to which Naina just laughed.
'What's so obvious?'
it was Dev who had just entered the room, Naina signaled towards Maan and a look of realization hit Dev's eyes
'You mean about the fact that you're head over heels in love with Geet? Yea it's pretty evident by the look on your face these days' he had finished.
'I'm not head over heels in...'
he had stopped the sentence midway seeing Dev and Naina's knowing smirks, The Maan Singh Khurana who made the office quiver by just a look was seemingly outvoted by his Bhai and soon-to-be Bhabhi and mystified by a certain someone who was still quite oblivious to all these.
Only he knew how he had managed to look/behave normal in front of Geet in the days that followed, but all his efforts didn't seem to have any power when she had started dancing after the mehendi ceremony, she looked ethereal in the phthalo blue lehenga with platinum earrings and bracelet to match the silver working done on the dress.
'Savitri ji, who's that girl? She's seems very lovely'
'Seeing that she's this close to you people she must be very sanskaari'
'She works? Oh wonderful! She knows her share of responsibilities then'
'I know a very nice family where she would fit in like a daughter'
'I know a perfect guy for her, our Sharma ji's son...he's well cultured and well settled in London'
'Why go to someone else's son when my own laadla is present, we're looking for a suitable bahu ourself'
Savitri ji was only smiling because the other ladies were not letting the topic go and were discoursing upon it, each praising their own choices, Maan stood there next to Dadi listening to the ladies babbling about among themselves, suddenly the idea of a simple private marriage sounded so good.
The sangeet was still going on when he spotted one of the aunty's "laadla" walking towards Geet, he realized it was one of those couple songs where they'd be dancing in pair. In a fit of pique, he had simply walked over and held her hands and started dancing to the beats ignoring a startled Geet, who was quick to recover and continued dancing.
The music now slowed down into a melodious tune and the lights were dimmed, it was time for the couple to dance and the spotlight was on Dev and Naina who seemed to be lost in eachothers eyes throughout the dance, other couples started joining them,
'I have missed this opportunity twice already, but they say Third time's a charm'
Maan had said while extending his hand towards Geet. He made sure that they were hidden in the shadows, hiding her away from the prying eyes of the ladies present in the hall.
'Never thought you were a person who stood in the shadows'
'Desperate times call for desperate measures honey' he had given her a cheeky smile.
'Don't tell me those ladies are asking your hand in marriage to their daughters'
'Actually... right back at you. You might be a lovely, sanskaari and responsible daughter to some Sharma ji or a laadla but you're too good for any of them'
Geet had given him a quizzical look, he sighed, he was tired of all the facade he had to put up with these days. Giving up his inner turmoil he laced his fingers with hers and pulled her closer making her hands rest over his neck, his hand rested on her back while the other made way towards her waist. She had gasped with his touch, she was ticklish but this touch sent shivers down her whole body and she was reminded of the not-so-long-ago-night when she had felt the same, blushing furiously she lowered her eyes.
'You look beautiful!'
he whispered near her ears his breathe fanning her neck, Geet closed her eyes in response only to open them wide the next second when she felt him kiss the corner of her lips.
'Don't look at me like that, I will not hesitate to do it again'
he winked at her before walking away into the darkness, setting a lot more than a thousand butterflies free in her body.
Aise na mujhe tum dekho: seene se laga loonga😳 or in this case he won't hesitate to do it again🤣
P.S: This update is dedicated to all those readers who kept asking/hoping that i should update, thank you, you lovely people! If not for you guys keeping the thread alive i would have probably fallen lazy😆
