When Urvashi cursed Arjuna to remain a eunuch for life, it was Chitrasena along with Indra who mediated with her to reduce the tenure of her curse to a single year. Chitrasena was able to achieve this by narrating to her the story of the Pandavas and the bravery of Arjuna.
Indra, who was jealous over the fame of Karna, wanted to prove the superiority of his son Arjuna. So he asked Chitrasena to capture Karna and Duryodhana. During the Pandava's exile the Chitrasena along with his gandharva army attacked the kauravas who were celebrating in their tents and drinking wine. The gandharvas surrounded Karna from all the sides and a fierce battle occurred between them. This is considered as the most brutal group attack in Mahabharata. Then Chitrasena invoked illusions to Karna from behind which made him loss the consciousness. Still Karna managed to escape from the gandharvas but Duryodhana was captured. One of the soldiers of Duryodhana who saw the whole scene ran to the Panadavas for help. Yudhishthira was the only one of them who agreed to this and rest all denied but still following the orders of his elder brother, Arjuna, along with Bheema, Nakula and Sahadeva went to fight the Gandharvas and freed Duryodhana. Later, Karna defeated Chitrasena during his digvijaya.
