When you think of fashion' in Bollywood, by her own peserverence, Sonams name comes to mind first. You can just google sonam fashion and click on images to know what I mean. She has thousands of pictures of different clothes and painstakingly put together. Other actresses don't have as many. It is something she has worked her butt off to achieve. Recognition through her fashion.

Sonam loves fashion just like her sister, said recognition enabled these competent women to launch a business around their passion.
If you're referring to Cannes, her beauty (not her popularity) enabled her to land this assignment. Even the more popular Katrina ended up being kicked after only one appearance. It shows that being able to go to Cannes and make her mark where this a lot of beauties and stars isn't as easy as some people would like to make appear.
I think you are ignoring the fact that Katrina didn't even try. She was not going through the best of times and her face was at its worst with the swelling. And unfortunately she is the most disinterested actress in fashion. She gives a hoot about dress up.
For Katrina, Cannes was not the be all end all. She has attained such a position that it doesn't matter if her pictures get clicked at a film festival and get posted. She has enough fame and status without it. Sonams pictures are only splashed on Indian websites. She is not known outside. Not like Aishwarya who the foreign media equally concentrate on.
For that matter, even Deepika hardly gives much time and attention to Cannes appearances. Because she has enough going on and cannot and is not interested in devoting all her energies into some clothes to be worn to get clicked for recognition.
I don't know what you mean by make her mark. The Indian media even posts Mira Kapoor pictures every single freaking day WITHOUT her dressing up in couture. Of course they will post Sonam pics. Especially if most of the breasts are falling out. Is that making a mark? Foreign media don't even know her. Nor care.
