When you hear the phrase 'pyaar kiya to darna kya' it reminds you of the iconic song from 'Mughal-E-Azam'. Sohail Khan borrowed the popular phrase from the song and turned into the title of his second directorial venture after 'Auzaar'. 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kiya' starred brother Salman and Kajol, the numero uno actress at that time, in the lead roles. After a failed debut, this film gave a good boost to Sohail's career as a director. As the film celebrates 20 years of release today, we look at some interesting facts related to the film.

1. 'O O Jaane Na'

The film is, arguably, remembered best for this Kamaal Khan sung number. Though music directors Jatin-Lalit were credited with composing the song, the composer duo recreated the original track titled "Oh Oh Jane Jana" from Kamaal Khan's private album of the same name. The recreated version was much spunkier than the original and helped Kamaal Khan win a Filmfare RD Burman Award for Best New Talent In Music.

2. Fresh pairing

Salman Khan and Kajol had shared screen space earlier in 'Karan Arjun' but in that film, Kajol was paired opposite Shah Rukh and Mamta Kulkarni played Salman's love interest. This was the first time the two actors were cast opposite each other in a film and their pairing added to the freshness of the film.

3. Served as the debut of Himesh Reshammiya and Sajid-Wajid

Though Jatin-Lalit were the main composers of the film, Himesh Reshammiya and Sajid-Wajid were given a song each to showcase their talent. While Himesh composed 'Odh Li Chunariya Tere Naam Ki", Sajid-Wajid were credited with the qawalli number "Teri Jawaani Badi Mast Mast Hai". Salman Khan took the composers under his wings and gave them the opportunity to compose the music for several of his films.

4. The shirtless trend

Gym owners in India must be thankful to Salman Khan for starting a trend of going shirtless and sporting a chiselled physique. This trend started with the song 'O O Jaane Na'. It was the first song in which Salman Khan appeared shirtless, something which became sort of a trend in the future. The legend goes that they were shooting the song in a place far away from the city and the t-shirt which Salman was supposed to wear in the song did not fit him. As they did not have any alternative, it was decided that the actor would appear shirtless in the song.

5. Sohail Khan's only hit as a director

Sohail Khan started his career as a director with the Salman Khan-Sanjay Kapoor-Shilpa Shetty starrer 'Auzaar' which did not create any ripple at the box-office. 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya' gave a much needed shot in the arm to his career as it proved to be a huge success at the box-office. He later went on to direct films like 'Hello Brother', 'Maine Dil Tujhko Diya', 'Jai Ho' and 'Freaky Ali', 'Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya' remains to be his only clean hit as a director till date.

Though 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya' is remembered for Salman and Kajol's pairing the song 'O O Jaane Jaana' rather than its content, in the opinion of this writer it is a clean, family entertainer that has aged pretty well. It is interesting to note that the plot of the 2005 Tamil film 'Nuvvostanante Nennoddantana' and its official Hindi remake 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' was starkly similar to 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya'.

Bear with me, this post is gonna be damn long...
FOR I HAVE LOVED THIS MOVIE TO DEATH. ❤️❤️❤️

The movie released in 1998 but I was only 2 so I saw the film for the first time when I was maybe 10. I do, however, remember watching Kuch Kuch at a very young age and I fell completely in love with Aman and I thought he was super right for Anjali coz he was sooo cute and cool. 😆 Wish someone told me I could've just watched PKTDK. 😆

Sohail Khan ji, if there is anything good you have done in this profession, it would be this movie. 😆
A big thank you, shukriya. 😆 Without him, I wouldn't have got a chance to see Salman and Kajol opposite each other romantically.

Man, they have lovely chemistry. 😳 I wouldn't call it explosive or sensual but it's very cute, the innocent-type romantic. ❤️ Especially in Odhli Chunariya:

^ Look how adorable. Also, thank you so much to Salman's stylist for those outfits where you can see a lot of his body. Much appreciated. Such hotness.

^ Haha, love this song. Tum par hum hai atke yaara, dil bhi maare jhatke hooo, kyuki tum ho HATKE *beat* The step when they say "atke" is sooo cute. 😆❤️

^ This song is so sweet. I have it on my 90s playlist in my car. 😆 Love singing it while driving. Salman looks like a college boy in that outfit. Kajol in white.

^ ICONIC.

I LOVE YOU ALL. Doston, naa koi manzil hai, naa koi saathi hai... phir bhi nikal pada hoon ghar se, shayad jiski talash hai, wohi saathi hai... wohi manzil hai... HIT IT.

(You're lowkey lying if you've never attempted this step 😆).
Love the part when it's like: "mera khwab, mere khayalon ki rani, kisi din banegi humari kahani..." ❤️

Anyway, HAPPY 20 YEARS Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, you never fail to entertain me no matter what my day has been like. 🥳👍🏼

PS. I found some BTS, looks fun ⭐️

One of my favorite movies. I can watch this movie again and again and still won't be bored.
Salman and his 'bade bhaiya' 😆Arbaaz scenes were always a trear to watch. I loved Arbaaz as the khadoos guy.

Salman and Kajol truly have a beautiful chemistry. It's sad that these 2 did very few movies together.

The music was also great.

I loved the cricket scene and the actors duplicates on stage scene. These scenes were hilarious.
