Back from the hibernation since I just finished watching this movie on a flight so may have missed some parts or was busy paying attention to the flight attendants but from what I understood some questions are lingering in my mind. I feel justice wasn't done to the role of the father in this movie as it left a lot of plot holes and although I know he was a bad husband but when it comes to his daughter I don't know if he was a bad father? I know her mother wanted the best for her daughter, but I feel selling your jewelry and keeping secrets wasn't the smartest decision. Her daughter running away from school and travelling to mumbai again wasn't a bright decision. For the sake of money it all turned well but lets not kid our self a minor, travelling to the shady underbelly of entertainment and glamour life in mumbai was it really a smart move?
The story at times was skewed and although I am all for women empowerment I still feel his character was vilified at times. For example he focused on her education and paid beyond his means to support her, it wasn't like he was trying to stop her from going to school. I know she enjoyed music but she was a carless and particularly bad student when it came to her school, she had no interest in her studies or tutoring so is it really fair? Her father never beat her up, he was often working 17 hrs, putting up with his own shit in life/work but was trying to give them a better future, even migrating abroad for them.
There is no question he was a bad and abusive husband. But as a father did he really let his daughter down? I think he was mostly misunderstood.

Haven't watched this movie. But reading this reminded me of the father character in 2 states and I felt like he was also misunderstood as a father even though was a bad husband probably. I think it is laziness on the part of the writers cuz they think they can force their ideas on us without proper justification. Happens a lot for characters of both genders.
Isn't that movie overhyped though? Don't feel like watching it for that reason.

My take is it under performed in India yet did very well outside of India
So its another Salaam-E-Ishq, Yaadein or Harry Sejal type

A mulligan IMHO 😆😆

This reminds me of my own father.
He is a wonderful father but bad husband
Very hardworking and kind otherwise , but when it comes to his wife , male ego rises up

He didn't want a daughter..had forced his wife to abort when he got to know about the girl child..but she fled and returned after giving birth to her daughter. from what I saw.. the daadi was supportive of the mother - daughter bcoz she herself had lived with this discrimination.
Inspite of accepting (don't know if it's the right word) his wife n daughter back..he always discriminated between the girl and her brother..she was never taken for outings, functions,weddings..nothing. ya he paid for her schooling..there should've been a backstory to that coz seems difficult to digest. And of course he expected her to score well as a return for his investment. But we had a teacher explaining to the girl that her father pays for her education and expects her to score well.
He didn't beat her simply coz she was a minor..or not significant enough in his life.
There's no doubt that he was a horrible husband. About working day n night..what would he do at home with a wife n daughter he resented..also it gave him a sense of superiority.

Coming to mom..she didn't approve of her daughter bunking school and going to Mumbai..the girl didn't tell her and the mom gave her n earful and voiced her concern when she came to know..she just wanted her daughter to be happy.. to fulfill her dreams till n extent where she could..coz she herself was deprived of the happiness and had struggled to even give birth to her daughter. She did tell the girl to not see dreams beyond their capabilities but did everything in her capacity to make her happy. Even hiding things and stealing from her husband's wallet.
The girl was a rebel..more than a bad student. It wasn't like she couldn't study..she did not want to study simply coz she was forced to suppress her passion.

All the main characters had a grey shade in that movie..no black n whites

That can't be justified on any basis.
