TV stars are new youth icons
Television actors have started giving the big screen stars a serious run for their money. Small screen actors are turning into icons in their own right. There are several youngsters who are aping the 'Angad' look or Anvesha's style and attitude. It is the popularity of these stars that has also made their serials blockbusters.
"I love Angad's acting, his style and his attitude. I especially like his voice," says Zeeshan Fatima of Nasr School. Though his serial Kaisa Ye Pyaar Hai is the usual love story, it is Iqbal who brings in all the viewers, especially the girls.
Remix is one show that teens love to watch. The serial has many takers for its fresh concept and innovative approach. Shaista Fatima, also from Nasr says, "I like Anvesha's outlook and her never-say-die attitude. Such programmes show real life problems that we face." Another girl who's making waves is Shweta Gulati who plays Tia in Remix.
Reportedly, students skip their studies and watch Remix just to catch up on Tia and her track on the show. And they don't even want to miss the re-runs! Says Vijay Raj of Bhadruka, "I like Tia's histrionics and her sense of fashion in Remix. I watch the show only for her." Ranvir from the same show is also equally popular for his chocolate boy looks and sensitive acting. "I love the way Ranvir looks in Remix," says Divya Subramanium from St. Anns College.
The popularity of Ekta's soaps also makes her actors popular. Eijaz Khan and Hiten Tejwani are a hot favourite among the girls. Rajeev Khandelwal was also hot property before he quit Kahiin To Hoga and now has hardly any shows on hand.
Television has made these virtually unknown faces hugely popular actors with hundreds of teenagers looking up to them for fashion guidelines and living advice.
I t's nice being known as a 'heartthrob' or an 'icon' but I feel icons are people like Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam or J.R.D. Tata who have achieved so much in life.
