However Aamir and Kareena are not the first choices for the main lead in Hirani's film, Idiots. Earlier on Hirani had approached Shahrukh to play the lead role, but due to SRK's personal differences with producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, he tuned down the offer. Supposedly John was also approached to play a role in the film. Hirani was then recently in talks with Kajol to star opposite Aamir in the film. However sources claim that since Kajol is busy with husband Ajay's film; she had to turn down the role. But other sources claim that the real reason why Hirani decided to approach Kareena was that he was offended when he found out that Kajol did not who he was and had asked Shahrukh if he was any good as a director. Hirani then decided to approach Kareena and sources claim "Kareena may just be working with Aamir. Last week, Kareena and Raju had a hush-hush meeting where he narrated her, the script of Idiots. Kareena is very excited about it."

Kareena is keen to work with Rajkumar Hirani and she has also been very keen to work opposite Aamir Khan. Earlier too she was offered Mani Ratnam's Lajjo and Mr. and Mrs Iyer opposite Aamir, however both the films did not work out and were scrapped. So after two unsuccessful attempts to work with Aamir, hopefully Kareena will be third time lucky and will get the opportunity to work opposite Aamir. Meanwhile sources claim that Kareena is also very busy with many big banner films and is trying her best to work out the dates for Hirani's film Idiots. If everything falls into place, the audiences will get to see Aamir and Kareena together on-screen for the first time.
