Was Age Really A Factor In The 90s?

Hi everyone
While going through numerous posts on this forum...I've seen ppl discussing how there is still 4 more years to go before samaina can get married as both are underage...
My question is did age matter in the 90s?
Most girls were married off even before they reached the age of 18...And for boys...It was 20 at that max...
Career and studies were not given importance...And the moment a girl reached the age of 15... Parents used to start looking for prospective grooms and get them married by 16 or 17
For boys... Esp marwari businessman families...The boys were always asked to start looking into the business right from class 10 or 11...And get married as soon as most of them passed class 12...And had learnt to take up business responsibilities
A well settled boy was not what a girls family used to look for in their damaad... But a well settled family...
Going by that trend... Both sameer and naina are eligible for marriage...College education was definitely a rarity...Esp for girls...So I doubt if naina will be given that option in life...
I know you might point out the legal hassles... But it's a fact that marriage age rules were not that strict in those days...
Would love to read ur pov 😳

Yes, you are right. Girls would be married young and so were marwadi businees people back then.

But, the PH whose previous show was pretty controversial probably will not take the risk again. And Shashi did confirm in some interview that Samaina will marry when they attain legal age. Hence many of us think sameer has to become 21 for their wedding to happen

Hi Nivi
Regarding the previous controversy... I doubt if it's going to effect the original storyline of this show...Coz they are 2 different things altogether...
Plus... Underage marriage has been explored on indian telly...Plus..The storyline is dated back to the 90s... So legal hassles should not be there...The other show was set in.present day...Hence that uproar...
I have no idea abt sumit Sir's interview... But if he has said so...There's nothing like watching samaina dating period for a few more years...
My only concern is...Will naina's family wait till that long...Coz there's still 4 more yrs to go for sameer to turn 21...And going by the standards of the agarwal family...They might start looking for prospects by next year

Hi Vandy

Naina might try and pull something wanting to study further since she is good in studies. Chachaji might help and try and get some time probably till Sameer reaches legal marriageable age. Not sure Dadi Bua's role, she might encourage Naina to study, they showed a glimpse of that already in the initial Buaji's entry episodes.

I am in my 40s now and was in the prime of my youth in the 90 s. I got married at the age of 30 and my husband was 32. Most of my friends got married around 25. So, no. People did not get married that early in the 90s. Just like today some get married really soon it was the same back then too. And the educated lot did wait till the legal marigable age.

Its not the age... The execution is the problem... The same ph is doing another where two women are happily sharing thier husband 🤢..
In ppk too the execution ws the problem... Similar theme ws there in a starplus show some years back... The show didn't shut down because of that reason... It ws the execution that failed.

Hi vandy... don't know if you remember me but I was partially active in the Humsafars forum. How are you?
You have raised a very interesting point... I'm from that period too, slightly younger than the leads, and I got married at 24 after I did my Masters. And all girls in my family were like that.

But I grew up surrounded by business families, mostly Sindhis and Marwari, and what you have written was true of them. Hardcore business families often involved the boys in business after 9th or 10th and lot of them stopped studying after '12th. As for girls, getting married anytime after 10th was fair game... and i most cases they would even stop school after 10th. Education was not really critical but they all ended up with good practical business knowledge and were very successful in life.

In this show I'm assuming Pooja is one such girl, who probably is 19 and she stopped school after 10th. And as you pointed out laws regarding legal age of marriage was not strictly employed. But having said that I still feel the PH will not take chances. Even if the show is set in 90s I think they will cater to current sensibilities... and going by that Naina is 16, almost 17 and Sameer is 17, almost 18. If they want to show and early marriage they may slightly compromise and show Sameer as completed 20 when getting married while Naina will be 19.

Hey... Good to see you here 😳
@bold
Thats what I was talking about...If u see naina belongs to a well educated family...tauji lawyer... Chacha CA and safari suit librarian...but still education is not valued for the girls... Eg pooja being married off early...Naina might be a topper...But nobody even talks about her higher education...And that's where the problem is...
If they go by rule books...Sameer still needs 3 or 4 more years...But does naina have that much time?
Let's see what the CVS have planned for us... But for now I want to see a proper school year for them... Innocence is the USP of the show...And school romance is what will keep It intact

Do you know people who grew up in 90s are in their 40s now?
I belong to that age group. From Ahmedabad. From early 90s high school. - same time period they are showing Sameer & Naina in.

The time between MPK +QSQT+Dil & DDLJ. - DDLJ will come in college days.

No.Girls were not married off that early. I got married at 25. so did most of my friends.
Though Big part of Amdavadi business families had girls doing 3 year BA/BCom after school & getting married. Some of my school friends did get married at age 21 through that route. But none after 10th. None.
Most who went into engineering/ medicine/ CA kind of professional fields were married in mid 20s or late 20s.

Also,
Highschool pairs were for keeps- most of them. Shaadiwala pyaar was reality.
