'Race'ing with Roadies
It's a double delight for Roadies fans and those looking forward to Saif Ali Khan's upcoming film Race. The Abbas-Mustan-directed action thriller has entered a tie-up with MTV's reality show which will have one member of the film make a special appearance in every episode of the Roadies show. Television viewers can identify the appearing actor's character name from the film and win a chance to watch the film along with its cast.
The deal was unveiled at a recent conference that had the teams of Race and Roadies in attendance. Producer Ramesh Taurani and directors Abbas-Mustan along with Saif Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu represented Race while MTV GM, Ashish Patil, Roadies producer Raghu Ram and VJ Rannvijay represented MTV's reality show.
While the hosts Raghu and Rannvijay clarified about their hostile behaviour and obscene language at the auditions, everyone else took time to point out the similarities between the show and the film.
Of what was said, one could conclude that similarities between Race and Roadies were plenty. Both stood for a gamble in life where people take a risk in order to achieve their personal motives. Also, Saif Ali Khan suggested that the characters in Race were placed under similar situations as Roadies' contestants are. "There is just one way out. It's a fight for survival and that is the common theme between Race and Roadies," said Khan.
Ramesh Taurani suggested this was the perfect business tie-up because Race stood for everything that Roadies was all about. "Roadies is a slick show about youngsters taking chances, deceiving friends and coming out on top. The story of our film revolves around exactly the same elements and as a result this association made a lot of sense," he said.
Saif Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu nodded in affirmation as both went on to say "Race is a lot about human drama between real-life characters ala MTV's Roadies."
If the auditions were anything to go by, the actual show promises to be one rollicking affair. Both Raghu and Rannvijay promised that the show will be more hard-hitting and entertaining than any other reality show ever seen on Indian television. "The MTV Hero Honda Roadies 5.0 will be the equivalent of a hand-grenade exploding in your hand. It will simply blow you away!" said Raghu.
Let's hope, Race and Roadies both benefit from this double whammy of a deal and shell out some engrossing high-octane entertainment. Fingers crossed, everyone will be hoping they turn out to be more authentic than Rannvijay and Saif Ali Khan's posy arm- wrestling competition.
