I saw the movie. I enjoyed it and really enjoyed Khilji scenes but it was so obvious that both DP and Shahid were shortchanged. DP supposedly played the titular role but there were hardly any scenes showing her character arc. She looked awesomely beautiful in the initial scenes in the forest. With her lithness and elegance she was at her best in those scenes. Now that was a princess we could all get behind. But the romance between her and shahid felt so rushed almost like ticking a box . Then their scenes at the palace barring few was them walking or running or watching something for entire stretches. The ghoomar dong was not reqd, instead more focus should have been given to scenes depicting why Padmavati was the beloved queen of Chittor . To DPs credit she still bought a lot of gravitas to her role as the queen, even without any scenes depicting her rise as the beloved queen we still could get behind it bcoz of the way she carried herself and she got to perform in the limited scenes SLB gave her. Shahid I feel was really let down. He is not a bad actor and for him to have given such an insipid performance , I think has more to do with the role than him. He came across as this proud fool who kept talking about Rajput so and so whether required or not.
Compare this with Khilji, we saw his rise and how he became the sultan. Jim was given an awesome introduction. Ranveers relationship with his counterparts was etched out well . He looked handsome in all the frames relatively Shahid looked very average. The bias couldn't have been more obvious. If SLB had given stronger roles to DP and shahid the movie would have been more interesting . In its present form the only interesting parts of the movie are the Ranveer sections especially with Jim.
DP should take a break from SLB. Raja Sen was right in his review she deserved a movie that did more justice to her.

couldn't agree more. SLB uses DP's name to sell his movies & short changes her repeatedly. I want DP to take a break not only for herself, but also to see just how well SLB + RS deliver on their own. those 2 are yet to deliver a 100+ cr grosser without DP, whereas DP has a few of those without those 2.
isn't it funny that even with such a role, DP put her head on the line whereas RS was no where to be seen during promotions.

When srk /salman/varun etc fans bother coming to these threads.

smjho Ranveer has arrived.

The biggest enemy of RS,RK,SRK fans is still Deepika.

This thread is also aimed at her.

Ranveer will one day get there.Till then they will be using SLb's love for him as the highest honor.

There is still a lot to be achieved.

with deepika's and shahid's beauty and good acting , I actually even enjoyed watching the sketchy characters of padmavati and maharawal ratan singh. they gave the flimsy lines and scenes so much and came out flying even with so little material given to them. deepika looked stunning and even shahid in his shirtless scenes looked hot. but really no set up to their scenes or lovestory. I actually felt some sadness in the rajput valor that was just spelled out with shahid's dialogue.
but i will say that slb has the best production valueand sets, that in itself is worth the ticket price. to see deepika look so pretty on the big screen.

Ranveer is intelligent and Deepika is dumb, he took advantage of this and accelerated his career- today his kitty is filled with movies with top directors.. Bhansali will have to wait for RS till he completes the 4-5 films that are scheduled. DP is.. well she will probably say yes to a Bhansali film again if no other offer comes up 😆

I can't move on from Padmaavat: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmaavat released last week, But the director is far from getting closure.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Just like his larger-than-life portrayals and movie sets with their alluring colours and luxurious set-ups, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Mumbai studio is a study in opulence and elegance. Clad in a custard yellow kurta, SLB greets us with a smile on his face. The director is at ease following the yearlong struggle to release his film. "I leave the church and people tell me they are praying for my film. I am on the road and autorickshaw driver gives me thumbs up. What else can I ask for! he beams. As his much controversial film Padmaavat continues to roar at the box office, in a candid chat, the director reveals his fears while making the film, his equation with Deepika Padukone, and how he can never move on from Padmaavat.

Now that Padmaavat has finally released, have you moved on from the film?
I will live with Padmaavat for a long time. It is a film I am proud of it has taken so much of me, and demanded so much of me. I have given so much of myself to this film. And that makes it a special film. I have never got so much love from the audience from all over the world. None of my films have ever made such an impact. I can't move on from Padmaavat I will live with it for a little longer.

Did you feel like giving up at any point of time?
Not at all! As a filmmaker, I could never think of giving up. Padmaavat has been a challenge, but it has been worth it.

You had a tough time setting up Padmaavat. What was the biggest fear you always had in mind?
My biggest fear for the film was its release. By the grace of God, that has been achieved due to the entire team's hard work and the prayers of the people from within and outside the fraternity. We (the film's team) weren't even scared of the attacks and the protests the release was our biggest concern. Secondly, I was wondering if people would go to the theatres with the threat of violence. Today, however, I am thankful to the government because the kind of protection they have given was commendable.

When making the film, there was prevalent anxiety. But when people watched it, our intention was clear. It was just a film there was no wrong portrayal in the film. I still don't understand why it was banned. Why should we be scared of making a historical film? The entire nation got involved in the making of the film.

Fortunately, Pad man played knight in shining armour and postponed their film for yours. How important was that for you?
It was important for both the films to come to an understanding as we were not in a position to delay the film. I asked Akshay (Kumar) to not keep the release of our projects on the same day because loss for the both of us was imminent in such a case. I was not in a position to lose anymore, which he thankfully understood. All that was nicely done and it only shows solidarity within the industry.

You present your actresses in the most beautiful way possible. How much do you get involved in terms of presenting your actresses on screen?
My actors are very special to me I invest so much so that I bring out the best in my actors. I am well aware of their potential and I take them to territories that they have not ventured in before. Coming to Deepika Padukone's work in Padmaavat, I know how to show her on the screen. I know how to exactly dress her up; she is a beautiful girl, in any case. She listens carefully to the director. In fact, there are times she doesn't need to be told what is to be done I love her a lot. She is a brilliant actor and very special to me. In my films it's the whole team that comes together and does magic. My actors also know that it is the team that makes them.

The chemistry between Ranveer Singh and Jim Sarbh has been highly appreciated by audiences. How did you design those characters?
We underplayed it. I was making a mainstream film, so we didn't want to elaborate on that a lot. People have liked Jim's (Sarbh) performance he is a special and unpredictable actor. His spontaneity is great and I have enjoyed watching him perform. Their relationship had to have a certain dignity. We underplayed this part because the story was about Padmavati. 🤔

You have made so many actors into stars but do actors change after they become stars?
Do I need them to be grateful once they become stars in their own right? I work with them because they suit a particular character. I worked with the best in this country and I don't expect anything out of them! It's a nation that worships stars. My actors have always given me credit for what we created together I have a great relationship with all of them. I don't throw tantrums neither do I tolerate them. There is a mutual respect and sanity to the relationship.

SLB is in love with Ranveer. That was obvious from BM. DP also knows it. In return she gets a fat pay check to prop them up. Shahid also got entry to KriArj so not a bad trade off for him. He will get a few movies for free.

Deepika wanted this BO..bigger than the Khans. She achieved it.The only actress to do that.

Padmavati needed that male character to bring in the male population who normally avoid these films. She absolutely doesnt mind. The only film which became a BB without an A lister heroine is Dangal.

The film has her in the title role. Her face is on every poster world wide.Karni Sena did their bit too.

She is the QUEEN.

She got to this position using her choices wisely.

Today she can do 5 films which will make 500 crores..with HR/SRK/Salman etc.

But she wont..and that is a loss to the industry.

SHE KNOWS IT!

wooing and all is fine. but Deepu should refuse this time. Before BM and PM, Deepu delivered Tamasha and Piku both of which got her critical acclaim. BM for many of the fans was a disappointment. and we were told PM has her in the main role. the promotions were centred around her. i have seen so many if the fans complaining & feeling disappointed after watching PM.
People don't like to be lied to- if RS has the main role promote it as his movies. I feel at some point this miseading marketing will catch-up. And if Deepu were as smart as I think she is, she will quite SLB when she is ahead. now that she has the non Khans highest grosser better to focus on some meaningful commercial movies instead of wasting 2 years of PM part 2.
