Chalani (sieve, yes the same one which normal people use for separating flour and ITV folks use for Karwa Chowth (which again on ITV falls on full moon 😆😆😆)) is a commonly used utensil in a lot of desi (Indian subcontinent) households.

In Maharashtra, we have a phrase for people who have little or no brains. We say "Jab Akal bat rahi thi, ye chalani leke gaya/gayi thi" (when there was a distribution of wisdom was being done, this person went to collect it in a sieve (instead of any other pan).

:-D It is a fun metaphor which is completely true about a lot of people in Thakur parivaar!

Just take example of engagement ceremony.

Ratan going out at the last moment to get the ring polished and spending time in a cheap travel agency at such a crucial point.

Also not having a decent idea how to keep one ring safe till he goes to the jeweller.

And the super idea he gets is to wear it himself.

Sakshi bai saa making dumb remarks about broken engagements and Diya's age at the swagaat itself. (Okay, which place do these guys are from? She is ******* 30 not 80, and I have seen women who look graceful and pretty at that age too.)

Chote Thakur sa making stupid jokes during the engagement ceremony itself.
