My very first introduction into K-drama. (albeit watched the hindi dubbed version though). hence it is special. very special.
and i love this show. did i say love? make it totally, absolutely, devotedly love. there was a time i felt like donning armour and suit and weapons and charging at anyone who dared to word a single wrong word against this show. or maybe stick pins in their voodoo dolls.
Now 40+ serials older and wiser i can see that this drama is not without its flaws. people can rightfully criticize this show. i won't charge at them. (jog maybe). and i won't stick (too many) pins on the dolls.
yet.. i love this show just the same. not because this is my first show but because it indeed is a beautiful show with beautiful characters and beautiful bondings. action, romance, bromance, sismance, comedy, thriller... you name it; this show nails it.
and the actors did a fantastic job living their characters.
The characters:
Captain Yoo Shi-jin (aka Big Boss)
The team leader of Alpha Team, an elite special forces unit in South Korea. He is a soldier from a family with a military background, and highly respects his father, who is honorably discharged as a Sergeant Major. Possessing outstanding academic and physical abilities, he graduated from the Korea Military Academy and is currently a Captain in the army. Shi-jin is a loyal soldier who goes all out to defend his country's honor but in life, he is an easy-going and witty man who likes to joke around.
Dr. Kang Mo-yeon
A cardio thoracic specialist who works at Haesung Hospital. She is an assertive woman who believes that competence overrules connections but is hit by the harsh reality that she cannot go anywhere without any connections. She stands firmly by her principles and doesn't fall prey easily to her emotions, though she is not afraid to admit her mistakes.
Sgt. Major Seo Dae-young (aka Wolf)
A loyal soldier who takes pride in protecting his family and his homeland with his own two hands. He possesses extensive experience in dealing with disasters, and often uses this knowledge to protect his comrades. Since heavy actions are more comfortable for him than lighthearted conversations, he has a hard time expressing his feelings. However, within the shell of this hardcore soldier is a good heart that is deeper than anyone else's.
First Lieutenant Yoon Myeong-ju
An army doctor who is also the daughter of Lieutenant General Yoon, commander of the South Korean Special Forces Brigade. She follows her father's footsteps and graduates from the Korea Military Academy before doing an internship at Haesung Hospital. At her first assignment she meets Dae-young, a non-commissioned soldier. She is determined and does not hesitate to pursue what she desires.

The Medical team:
Dr Song- A general Surgeon from Mo-yeon's hospital
Nurse Ha Ja-ae - ER Nurse
Dr. Lee Chi-Hun- 1st year resident of Thoracic Surgery
Choi Min-ji- ER Nurse, she's the youngest of the team

And every one of those characters are beautiful in their own way. A rare serial where i rooted for every character and loved watching their arc. and yes that includes the firangi villain too. though i was tempted to enter the screen and thrash the sorry obnoxious ass of the plant manager.
Let's do away with flaws first:
Si-jin and Mo-yeon. the constant push-pull of their equations gets tiring after a point of time. and kinda stops making sense.
Now the perfections:
Big boss and Beauty together. - adorable. Their story, their banters, their principles, their strengths and just them together.
Sergent and Myeong-ju. - to be honest i loved this love story more and wanted more. so much of depth and poignancy and beauty.
Bromance of Shi jin and Wolf. - They are a riot. Shi jin - the cool kameena dude. Seo dae yeong - the silent, deep, wall of a guy. together. extreme opposite edge of spectrum and that's my dream wish of spectrum (i.e my kinda guy). my ultimate nirvana.
Alpha Unit: their bonding, loyalty.
Medical team: their friendship and bantering. special mention to the cute love story of Dr. Song and Nurse Ha Ja-ae.
Sergent's bonding with the young guy he rescued from the streets.
and so many more. So much more.
Every character has a story to tell. and every story worth listening too.
and so many scenes i can write paeans upon. i shouldn't start or i won't be able to stop.
special mention to this phone flip. one of the most coolest scenes of the K-dramas. don't believe me? trust me.. you should.
The action sequences are one of the best in K-land. and no i am not being biased.
Lots of moments that will make you smile, giggle, go mushy, give you adrenaline rush...
and then the moments that will break your heart.
and this letter did break my heart and how.
and now is what i call love.💔
and the moments you will smile through your tears. touched, happy and blissful calm.
This show with all its flaws (which i don't think are many and don't you disagree with me. i am still wearing my armour and go voodoo)... is special. very very special.
