Even after the Supreme Court stayed the ban by four states on the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat allowing it an all-India release, it seems like the film might not see the light of day in Rajasthan, the hotbed of a majority of protests, as there are no distributors for the movie yet.

"We have no distributor yet. The film has not been sold to anyone. All the rights lie with Bhansali alone. I don't think the film will be released until the controversy is resolved within the state," said film distributor Sunil Bansal, according to a DNA report.

State officials from INOX are also reportedly in touch with the local police to assess and evaluate the law and order situation in Rajasthan before finalising and deciding upon anything. "The distributor hasn't been finalised yet. We generally don't flout orders. So, we will go ahead with whatever the authorities decide. We are awaiting a police orders. Nothing can anyway be done until a distributor comes in," said the official, according to the same DNA report.

Film exhibitors were relying heavily on the Akshay Kumar-Sonam Kapoor-Radhika Apte starrer Padman as an alternative for the loss in business that they might have incurred in case Padmaavat did not release in Rajasthan. However, after addressing a joint press conference on Friday, Akshay Kumar and Bhansali announced that the makers of Padman agreed to defer the release of their film on Bhansali's request.

Owners of local theaters like Raj Mandir (which also doubles up as a tourist destination) however, have said that they will not release Padmaavat, regardless of whether Padman sees a release or not.

Recently, the Maharana of Mewar has also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a "ban on the film". According to the prince's letter, "If art misappropriates history then it is anti-national".

In other news, Gujarat multiplexes have decided not to screen the movie as, according to Rakesh Patel the director of the Gujarat Multiplex Association, "everyone is scared" and "no multiplex wants to bear the loss".

Moreover, the Rajput Karni Sena has reportedly called for a Bharat Bandh on 25 January, the day that Padmaavat is scheduled to release.

In the latest update, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has invited the Rajput Karni Sena for a screening of the movie. The Karni Sena confirmed that they received the invite however, they will not be taking it up and won't be watching the film, according to an India Today TV report

Following the repeated and continued protests against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat, the Bhansali Productions has sent a letter to Shree Rajput Karni Sena and Shree Rajput Sabha, inviting them to watch the film. The letter also states that there is no dream sequence or love scene in the movie between Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji.

The letter once again makes it clear that there's no dream sequence of romantic sequence between queen Padmavati and Allauddin Khilji over which they have been protesting so far. The letter also stated that the honour and valour of Padmavati has been portrayed with utmost dignity and respect.

DNA reporter informs that Lokendra Kalvi of Shree Rajput Karni Sena says the letter will be burnt as it's a sham. No date mentioned in the letter for viewing the film. Kalvi further expressed belief that 25th January will come and pass by. The film will not be released and Karni Sainiks will be present at all all cinema halls across the country to appeal for Janta Curfew.

A copy of the said letter is with DNA. Here's what the letter states:

"20th JAnuary 2018

To,Shree Rajput Karni Sena, Shree Rajput SabhaJaipur.

Dear Sir/s,

This letter is reference to our film PADMAAVAT.

We have reached out to you to set aside your misguided grievances and watch the film PADMAAVAT. The film showcases the honour an valour of the Rajput Community and Rani Padmavati is portrayed with utmost dignity and respect.

We can assure you that the film will make the entire Rajput Community proud. We invite you to see this for yourself and post that extend your cooperation for peaceful release of our film.

In all honesty, despite how crazy Karni Sena may be, this should be the first step taken by the Padmavati makers. Show it to the leaders of Karni Sena at least, who can influence and stop the fights. If there is nothing controversial, they have nothing to object about. Instead I really didn't get the point of displaying it the media etc. when it's clear Karni Sena isn't going to stop till they've seen the product. This will only brew mistrust that something is wrong. Moreover, after the Karni Sena view and create a furore over trivial stuff (when they can't find anything controversial), this would only bolster support for their film. There would be increased urgency for the government to step in, looking at the public support. Right now, public support is split into 2 groups: 1 group that believes in freedom of expression and that Karni Sena is making a fuss over nothing and a smaller group who believes that there is something controversial in the film looking at the inadequate response from the makers and the authorities. I'm not sure why this step wasn't taken earlier- could have prevented a lot of problems. Was it bad PR or ego from the makers side?

As mentioned in the letter, they had given in written on 29th Jan 2017, that is one year ago, that there is no dream sequence in the movie. Then shouldn't these idiots have an ounce of brain to read that document.

If they have gone to this extent, despite SLB giving in written, then i doubt anything else wouldve helped diffuse this matter back then.

Haha, as I've acknowledged, the Karni Sena is crazy. A letter wouldn't suffice for them. Even if they were to stop with the letter, they shouldn't have shown it to the media. To a crazy member of Karni Sena, it would seem like purposeful ignorance. Screening it for the media and not for them. If they hadn't done that, maybe the letter may have helped.
