restraining ban orders imposed by four
states in particular (Gujarat, Chhattisgarh,
Madhya Pradesh and Bihar) might be a relief
for Padmaavat's release, you might be
wrong.
Even as the Supreme Court has asked the
states to ensure smooth release of the
movie, the authorities are worried for the
safety of the halls and the cinemagoers.
Karni Sena members in several states have
threatened that they would vandalise the
theatres screening Padmaavat using 'batons
and petrol'.
According to a leading daily, the majority of
the leading film distributors in Rajasthan are
not keen to screen the movie fearing
consequences.
Even in Gujarat, the multiplex owners are
afraid of consequences which might lead to
severe losses for the film. "Unless safety of
people and our property is assured, we will
not release Padmaavat. In accordance with
SC order, the government must provide
adequate security and protection," said
Manubhai Patel, president, Multiplex Owners
Association - Gujarat to a leading daily.
However, the state police have ensured that
they will take measures to over law and
order situation in the state.
The situation is more horrendous in
Rajasthan where cinema hall owners are
scared to talk about the movie on record.
"Only a week is left for the release. It is not
possible for any distributor to coordinate
with 300 cinema screens and nearly 200
cinema hall owners to release the film. Even
if a large number of policemen are deployed,
the damage to the film is already done," a
Kota-based cinema owner said.
Meanwhile, the fringe elements are using
fear as the tool to ensure Bhansali's movie
suffers post-release. While the Karni Sena
members have called for a 'Janta curfew' in
Ujjain, Sanskriti Bacha Manch members have
openly threatened to vandalised cinema
halls as those are not insured and will hit
where it hurts.
Padmaavat stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid
Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles.
In the movie, Deepika plays the role of Rani
Padmavati while Shahid plays Maha Rawal
Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh essays the
role of an antagonist, Alauddin Khilji.
Padmaavat releases on January 25, 2018.
