Why did the makers choose this plot line?

Hi, before I move on from the serial, I just wanted to clarify my doubts. Please do answer if you have an idea. Why did the makers choose this particular plot line of a typical love triangle with the male lead and female lead against a psycho lead? Besides this being so stereotypical, what made them think this track would give them TRPs? We all know what happened to Haasil's TRPs when they went down the stereotypical route. So the makers had time to rectify the plot line and create a new, more intriguing one based on the lessons learnt from Haasil. Why did they persist? How did Sony TV approve 2 similar serials going on air around the same time and that too, back to back? I may sound very repetitive but I am so disappointed that there aren't any good Indian thrillers on TV. EDT had potential but they killed it by going down the same route as many others.

I think it is all for trp game-
They should have shown vyom gray - the person witnessing and so...taking benefit of someone else's crime
(some one murders shiv , he saw that - instead of saving him - thought of to erase shiv and take his place...by planning sharanya's memory loss) ...

did not like him as criminal...
