So this thought came to my mind particularly after reading Vidya's recent interview where she mentions how stars have become too accessible now that the curiosity to see them on big screen has reduced
While I may or may not agree with this

I do believe we go to see stars but then at the end we do pick content too or else why would a Tubelight fail and a TZH succeed when both star the same star..content does matter..but then stars do as well obviously

Do you guys think that social media overdose has sort of killed that curiosity which was there for stars earlier and has in some way affected the box office performance of their movies? as in the curiosity to see them on big screen has reduced due to them being so active and us seeing and knowing so much about them through social media?

Thoughts?

Looking at actors on Instagram stories they don't do anything during the day either

Just like me just taking pictures of then food they eat or the shows they watch 😆 😆

Social media overdose has killed curiosity, actors are not idolized like some special beings anymore. But I don't think that has affected the box office performance of films. The only thing that has changed is the surprise factor.
Earlier the audience went to watch a film just knowing the names of the people involved. They discovered the story and the characters while watching the film. Now with the influx of social media we get a trailer, promotions and songs which in ways reveals stuff about the film and also a basic idea of the narrative.

Considering your example TZH and TL released in the same year and Salman was equally accessible in both cases, promotions were done for both these films.

But what decides the final outcome is the content and the entertainment offered.

I'm not active on social media, so I may not be the right person to answer this..

Anyway, I do think the *glamour* surrounding actors DID come down, and now we have people choosing 'content' over the glitter and charm in movies. So, the pull of personal charm has reduced a lot.

Glamour and star-like qualities worked so well all these years because actors were pretty much hidden from our view.. and we all had romantic imagination of these actors, and thus charismatic actors were so popular a few years ago... but now, not anymore. They all can be plain, as long as they can act well or something like that. Earlier charm was more relied upon because it worked for the audience.

A little mystery is always good, IMO.. For example, I am very curious about some actors that I get to watch less or that don't have instagrams or youtube videos of them. I obsess over them... but not so much over ones who are all over internet.. :) I infact forget about them very quickly even if they were attractive.. but not the ones I don't find any info about.. and also those actors who post LESS about themselves on social media even if they are on instagram.. (I indulge in a liiittle instagram/youtube stalking when I like someone☺️ )... but ofcourse, unless they have beautiful or interesting personality even if they are on social media.. (but I have not found anyone whose posts scream #me-me-me with an interesting personality, so far)

SO yeah, to say in simple words - less is more, but a good movie is a good movie. I'm speaking for myself though.

hellooo LG! how are youu :) ..hope it's not inappropriate to greet now , but happy new year to youuu! :)

@bold -- Very concisely put!

I also think that these days, the movie promotion strategies are REALLY MESSED UP.

We have 3-4 teasrers, then motion poster, then dialogue promos, 2-3 trailers + audio AND VIDEO songs --- like, I simply am unable to wrap my head around such a messed up strategy.. The trailers as it is are poorly made, 90% of the time, revealing the stories..
