😲 how did she get so many movies lined up in 2018?
Clearly Anil Kapoor. I don't remember Neerja. All the movies
look to be hits. But she is relying on big stars to survive.
Please share your thoughts. 😉

Funny thread, not so long ago someone claimed she was jobless and pretty much over.
Also out of all her contemporaries, she's the one, along with Kangana, who relies the less on her co-stars. Deepika and Anushka have SRK, Ranveer, Ranbir while Katrina has Salman... When they are in a lurch they know on which door to knock.

The movies Sonam has in her kitty, she got on her own merit. She's entitled to work with her sister when their last ventures were relatively successful and appreciated, she's also entitled to work with her father (FINALLY after 10 years in the industry) when Abhishek, Ranbir, Saif and Kajol among other made movies with their parents too.

Sonam managed to carve herself a place in the industry. She won't be the glam girl one would cast in a big-budgeted action movie nor the romantic counterpart with merely a flowerpot role in an anticipated movie. But at least some people go to her with scripts in which she'll have an interesting role and as a fan, I'm always curious in what she has in store next.

My opinion : I don't think Neerja was a forgetable movie. It was so well shot and directed, you felt the oppressive atmosphere of that flight... the emotion was there too and ar the end of the movie one couldn't possibly not feel for this young girl whose life was ended abruptly or for her family who lost a cherished member.

Neerja was one of the rare woman-centric movie who grossed 75cr without having a superstar to back it. The cast and crew also got a lot of accolade for the hard work they put in.

Very well said. 👏 I am just surprised Sonam has so many good films. Padman with Akshay looks good. She needs a hit. Veere Di Wedding relies on Kareena heavily. Sonam is playing second fiddle. Anyway her lineup is better than Deepika and other contemporaries.

Veere Di Wedding is an ensemble cast. I don't think Sonam is playing second fiddle to Kareena ! I have a strong feeling the four roles are going to be meaty.

Also, she might no be doing solo movies this year but for next year, she has at least two very promising : The Zoya Factor and the Vidhu Vinod Chopra with Anil Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao!

She is starting to shoot for the Vidhu Vinod Chopra in January!

Neerja set her up for good. Obviously she knows what works the best for her : good script and well written characters.

Working with the Khans is not everything : look at Anushka. The girl is talented but working with SRK did nothing to her career.

As a fan, I'm happy with the path she choose, and not going the easy route and starring only on the khans movies especially when the female roles are so poorly written!

I really wanted her in Raees and in JHMS but I'm happy she didn't get to do them. She is doing far better, and I'm sure a Padman, Veere di Wedding and even a Dutt will bring far more to her career.

I still want her paired with SRK, because I have a feeling they wil have an amazing chemistry but only if it's a good role.

Speaking about Deepika, I believe she and Sonam share the same state of mind in regard of how they choose their films : Deepika wants to shine, she wants author-backed roles that will make her win a National award : the only thing she is yet to achieve.
She doesn't want to share stardom with anyone ! Remeber the threats to walk out of Padmavati if the title was changed ?
She and Kangana think exactly the same thing but Kangana has the guts to say it out loud : there can only be one hero ...
Khans at this point of her career, have nothing to offer her !

And because she is a superstar and because she makes it a point to be the "highest paid woman in the industry" she won't lower her fees, just like Kangana!
And most of these authors-backed projects are usually made on small budget ...

Sonam has always claimed that what matters the most to her is doing good work and that she doesn't care playing a second role as long as it is a good role. She wants to challenge herself : that's really commendable!

And she may not be a " bollywood superstar" aka the likes of Katrina, Deepika or Pryianka but she has reached her fair share of national and international stardom !

She is not going anywhere : better get used to it!

Funnily enough, I feel Sonam is one of the few actresses who doesn't need to give a hit. As long as her movies get enough covering and have a high production value, she'll have a place in Bollywood.
She has never been a contender to be THE top heroine do having hits or flops won't affect her as long as she keeps working in good movies or gives out a commendable performance.

Padman is a good move because there Akshay who has been known to do socially relevant movies. Moreover, R. Balki is a good director and Muruganantham's story us inspirational. The movie even if it doesn't become a superhit has the potential to still be talked about because of the subject.

Veere Di Wedding isn't a Kareena starrer. She's the most senior and popular actress of the lot but it's still presented as a multistarrer which will focus on a bunch of friends.
It promised to be one fun affair and the posters were really nice.

Sonam also has The Zoya Factor (adapted from Anuja Chauhan's popular book) and Ek Ladki To Aisa Laga (with her father, Juhi and Rajkummar Rao. It's a good cast so it's promising even though their is still a lot of mystery around the plot) in the pipeline.

The only one whose line up can rival with this are Anushka, Kangana (if she indeed has three movies yet to release or go on floor) and Katrina's (if she's indeed doing Shahid's movie). Deepika should sign more movies , Sonakhi should choose her movies more carefully and watch out for the production value if she doesnt want to be deemed a B-list has-been actress.

After Neerja she thought she will get lot of offers but no. She only has 2 guest appearance in Dutt & Padman. No lead roles. So her sister is making VDW for her.

Because she is beautiful n a likable Girl has a next door look n there is some freshness in her each time watching her on screen...I dont know how n why people here not so liking her but normal audience likes to see her onscreen..She doesnt possess tht superstar kind of vibes..I like her because she always ready to do small budget multistarrer movies..N anyways all turned out to be likable movies..I really like her n looking forward to see her movies..

What about Varun, Alia, ARK, Imran Sanjay Dutt and so many others? It's so easy to throw around names.

Salman has hardly benefited from nepotism as his father wasn't really keen on his debuting an acting career. He managed to make a name for himself on the Base of his charisma and build a fanbase which enabled him to become one of the biggest star of Hindi cinema.

Sonam being launched by SLB is proof enough that she has a little something going for her. SLB's movies like, Vishal Bhardwaj, mostly have powerful heroine so they won't cast just anyone in their movies.
Sonam is a beauty and has an innocence about her which made great directors like Anand L. Rai and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra cast her in roles in which these traits could be used to add to their complexity. Her being the first choice to impersonate Neerja Bhanot wasn't based on a whim too. There was a reason why Ram Madhvani wanted her in it.

As for Shraddha, despite being a poor actress, she got back to back successes in medium-sized movies which mean that the audience liked something in her. She's pretty and can dance.
It's more than some actresses can do imo.
