It was about a decade back when the pretty face was no more than a sweet recollection of frosty rose essence that I learned about the salients of the Christmas cheer.

It was a windy morning and covered up from head to toe I'd assigned myself to gathering the bells and ready them with strings before Daddy put them up on the tree. Among others I found a sparkling, golden star. I asked my father why that was.

Rubbing his nose, he sat me on the sofa and began, "Long, long ago, there was a kind girl called Mary. One night as she slept an angel came to her dreams.

'Wake up good Mary, awake as I sing! Wake, for you will be the mother to the God's beloved child! The child you bear, name him Jesus for he will be the way for men to see the Truth, and the light for them to see!'

Joseph, betrothed to Mary, had a similar dream that asked him to accept Mary and protect the son of the Holy God. Together, they traveled to Bethlehem when the king ordered for his subjects to be counted by the head.

In Bethlehem, they found not a single home free to take them in. At last, after looking high and low of the town, an innkeeper agreed to lodge them in a barn of animals.

Late that night, a boy was born in the manger. He was brighter than the winter sun, and calmer than the frozen lakes. The Angels descended to sing and dance as light filled the dark room where Mary lay with her son.

One of the Angels cried, 'Oh Glory be! Hallelujah let us sing
Peace on earth, goodwill to men, Today is born a King!'

'Tonight is the night of the King, the son of the God, whose mighty kingdom shall be forever and more! Tonight shall be known through the ages as the holy Christmas Night,' the other exclaimed, 'And men will live for evermore, because of Christmas day!'

Then the Angels hurried over the fields where they found some shepherds who immediately rushed with sweet sticks and lambs of theirs
to greet their infant Master.

From far in the East, guided by the great Star of Bethlehem the three oriental Wise Men came to greet the boy Jesus. They brought various gifts in his honour.

'Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown him again,
King forever, ceasing never,
Over us all to reign.'
Said Melchior, the first wise man.

'Frankincense to offer have I;
Incense owns a Deity nigh;
Prayer and praising all men raising,
Worship Him God Most High.'
Said Casper, the second.

'Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
Sealed in the stone cold tomb.'
Sang Balthazar, the third and the last.

This way, the three Oriental Kings worshipped the Lord on the Christmas night. From then on, every year on Christmas we celebrate Jesus' birthday by pinning this great Star to the top of our Christmas tree.

Nowadays Christmas cheer is all about finding happiness in the chilly winds outside and basking in the joy of giving!"

Although it had started out as a religious celebration, Christmas is now mostly an occasion for the family to gather round and enjoy a crackling fire while it snows outside.

Belief : Acceptance that something exists or is true, especially something without any proof.

Walking through the streets in winter, staring at those shops windows decorated with lights and little socks, those heavy sale in supermarkets, chocolates, pine trees and snow! Everything reminds of the most jolly holiday of the year, Christmas. Remember those good old days when Christmas only associated to one particular thing or more specifically, one particular person? Those days when Christmas was all about gifts and that wise old man who climbed down the chimney to leave us behind some. All the year around we wished and created a list and then that holy month of winter we behaved our best. After all, dear Santa didn't like bad children. The wait on those Christmas mornings was worth it when parents finally gave a thumps up to go and upwrap the gifts.

But, then we grew up. Childhood was the innocent period where we believed in what made us happy but, once we grew up, we started thinking more logically. Everything came with a price and so did happiness. So the idea of a selfless man, travelling around the world to distribute gifts was nothing but a thing to look back and laugh at, thinking how obscure the whole idea of Santa Claus was. After all, we somewhat figured out that the red clad angle were none other than our own parents.

We can't help but admit that losing belief in Santa Claus made Christmas a lot less fun, didn't it? In fact growing up made Christmas lose a lot of the excitement. No more snowman, no ginger bread cookies and no more singing carols all night. In fact we even came to a point in life where we kinda laughed over those children who believe in these amazing traditions and the whole idea of giving and receiving.

Seeing is believing but sometimes the most real things in world are what we can't see. Like the whole idea of celebrating Christmas. The holiday is not just about being happy but also sharing happiness. It's about giving as we have received from Him. Santa Claus isn't just a man who distributes gifts among the children but he is the idea of giving to everyone who deserves to be as happy as we are. We don't have to be a big man with white beard and sleigh driven by reindeers in order to make people smile, just a small effort to share what we can afford to the unfortunates is as equal to the role of Santa Claus.

So this Christmas, let us all believe what we have since our childhood, Santa Claus and miracles. And let us be one to those who have lost their belief so that the world will continuing believing and practicing the trend of doing good deeds.

Because Santa is in each one of us! And believing in miracles make miracles happen.
