This is being discussed greatly in the news at the moment as the Archbishop of Canterbury has stated that he feels that some aspects of Sharia law should be introduced in the UK.

What is your opinion on this? Do you think its a good idea? Is it right to have one set of legal rules for those following a specific religion and another set for those who don't?

Discuss.

True, but many Muslims feel that English Law is not right for them, in regards to how legal issues should be dealt with.

If they did go ahead with it, how would you feel about it?

As an outsider who has nothing to do with Sharia and a firm believer of democracy I don't support it for a democratic country. Is this law even relevant in 21st century?

But if the argument is that Sharia would be used in cases of divorce and property dispute etc. then there is no harm in it. Even a country like ours which claims to be secular and world's largest democracy has separate laws based on religion.

In my opinion religious laws have no place in democracy. It is against seperation of church and state. However, if a democracy elects to introduce religious law - then God help democracy.

^^^^I completely agree with you.

What i don't understand is that people who follow the islamic faith have been living in the UK for years now and no one has ever raised this issue....so why raise it now?

Also, if any non-muslim was to go and live in a muslim country, would they allow that individual to live by their own rule of law? practice their religion openly and for women, not were the hijab/burka?

I don't think so!
