EXCLUSIVE: CBFC member Vivek Agnihotri on Padmavati - When the film hasn't come to us, how can we view?

CBFC member Vivek Agnihotri talks about the whole controversy around Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati has become the daily fodder for all the news columns. As the film is inching closer to the release date (December 1), it feels like that controversies are just piling up for the filmmaker.

Rajput Karni Sena and some political leaders are against the film's release as they believe it distorts the historical facts and has love scene between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji. However, Bhansali had clearly stated long back that there is no such scene in the film. But even as the film is about to release, the protests are still going on.

Just recently the reports came that Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has sent Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed Padmavati back to the makers as the application for the certification was incomplete. A source told a leading agency, "The film was submitted for certification last week. We examined the documents, as we normally do. It was conveyed to the makers that their application was incomplete. They had to rectify and send it back, we will view it when it comes back to us. When they (makers) rectify the deficiency we will again scrutinise it once more and when the turn comes we will examine it (film for certification)." But the source didn't disclose the exact "deficiency".

To get the clear picture, we got in touch with CBFC member Vivek Agnihotri. He told us, "The truth is that they had sent it and every film or script has to have a disclaimer in the beginning whether it's a work of fiction or historical work. They have not sent that disclaimer. First you should ask whether the film is complete or not. And when it's complete, it will be viewed like any other film. The film hasn't reached to CBFC. When the film hasn't come, how can we view. When the script came, it didn't have any disclaimer."

The movie stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles.

Padmavati is slated to release on December 1.😆😆 Reminder no. ####

This PR is an all time low. SLB doesn't need to do all this. 🥱

Nowhere his films in the past were subjected to all this. I think he has made a shitty product this time and is doing everything to ensure a decent opening coz the WOM will be mixed to negative.

The story doesn't scream a 3 hour movie. Take out the fictional meeting between Khilji and Padmavati and there is nothing left, simply a been-there-done-that war movie.

Furthermore movie enthusiast, what do we take away from this extravaganza??? 🤔

That its better to commit suicide than be touched by someone (OK... nothing new for moviegoers, we have seen movies showing many potential victims killing themselves to escape from the clutch of a rapist. 70s-80s decade is filled with all of that).

Rajputs vulnerable moments and glorifying a villain.

Visuals etc is an extension of his recent movie and surprisingly not as polished as the former.

This was just another excuse for the megalomaniac SLB to justify scale and spending.

well there are a few more things like the capture of ratan Singh by treachery, the climax of Padmini & other women committing Jauhar...😳 also they can give ample time to the introduction of khilji and show some scenes which portary his cruelty and barbarianism... spend some time on Ratan singh intro, padmini intro ...and then some love story bw ratan singh & padmini...and also few supporting characters like Gora & badal... and how the political scenario changes after the emergence of Khilji... lots of things can be shown I think... It all depends on how much time SLB gave on each of those characters or situations😳

Oh and since it is SLB don't forget Ratan Singh's first wife and her jealousy of Padmavati and the usual saas-bahu drama. SLB THRIVES on that sort of things. But seriously all in all it just sounds like another war movie and a rehash of BM.

Well i think it was acceptable back in the days of such wars. I understand how women would rather kill themselves to protect their honor rather than be captured.

and it was because of this news one had slapped sick slb...and people were like awww Indian are still regressive and zazzbaati 😕
