Yes that is one mistake Shilpa made... she was so close to him she didnt see his bad side like mothers do. She should remember yaha rishte banate hi nahi hai so next time do not give anyone the position of a son -- always be objective and see people in the house from far. In this case I agree it has to come on Shilpa for her to see what a person Akash really is.
