Which years the does the old era end and new era start? I was watching a show few days, songs from 1981 till present were considered new era, any song pre 1981 was considered old era, do you agree with this?

As soon as I read your title, my mind went like pre-2010 was old era and post-2010 was new era.

For me, it 's based on music, I think music was great until 2010... and post 2010, it changed a lot.. something changed a lot.

I think personally, we can have our own definitions of new, old, older, etc but, what they said on the show is correct... because there's a clear change in the music from the 80s :)

I would actually divide music this way ...based on the way I perceive it, it's not an objective opinion. ~

1940-1960
1960-1980
1980-1992
1992-1994
1994-2004
2004-2007
2007-2010

😛 ...these aren't watertight compartments ! ..music always kept transitioning.. but a rough division.

It might also have to do with ones age, for a 15 year old, any thing pre 2010 might be old era. But for a 50 year old, 1960s, 70s might be old and anything after 1980 might be new.
Also Mukesh and Rafi'ss death also major role here , Mukesh died in 1976 and Rafi in 1980, the death of these two brought many new singers in the 80s, this changed bollyood songs forever

I haven't studied Bollywood to understand the eras.
However, from my perspective eighties had action/masala flicks. The nineties transitioned to romance. I have a hard time categorizing the 2000's. But post 2010 the trend has been towards mid to small size cinema, realism and diverse narratives.
