As of 2017, the box office hits have seen plenty of misses with its super hits. But when it comes to Varun Dhawan, it comes as no surprise that he rare fails to impress the audience. His previous film opposite Alia Bhatt, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, was a super hit. It bagged a total of Rs. 200.34 crores worldwide. His next movie, Judwaa 2 is touted to become his next super hit.

Although released in the last week of September, till now it is still garnering a lot of attention. It set a record in its opening day itself, earning Rs. 1.73 crores in Dubai itself. In fact, in the first week itself, it earned Rs. 100 crore, with Rs. 27 crore in the second week. In the third week, it is looking to enjoy another high earning week, as there is no major release taking place.

After a quick look of its popularity on IMBD and Cinestaan, you can see that Judwaa 2 is definitely becoming the next hit, especially in the Bollywood industry where remake movies normally don't see such popularity. But for a movie that has already made it as the 4^th highest grossing Bollywood movie of 2017 and the 7^th movie to cross the Rs. 100 Crore mark, we can expect a lot more.

Box Office: Varun Dhawan's Judwaa 2 goes past Shah Rukh Khan's Raees, emerges as highest grosser of 2017

Nine months after the release of Raees, Bollywood finally has a film which has managed to go past its lifetime business. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer had netted Rs. 137.51 crore on its Republic Day weekend release and now Dusshehra release Judwaa 2 has gone past that number during its fourth week. The film currently stands at Rs. 137.81 crore and should eventually wrap up around the Rs. 139 crore mark.
This is how the three highest grossers of 2017 currently stand like:
Judwaa 2 Rs. 137.81 crore (still running)
Raees Rs. 137.51 crore

Toilet - Ek Prem Katha Rs. 134.25 crore
While Judwaa 2 comes from the house of Sajid Nadiadwala who collaborated with Fox, Raeeswas a Shah Rukh Khan and Excel production. On the other hand Toilet - Ek Prem Katha had Akshay Kumar, KriArj, Viacom, Abundantia and Neeraj Pandey joining hands.
For the team of Judwaa 2, this is a huge win indeed since it has managed to surpass the score of nothing less than a Shah Rukh Khan starrer. That too when there were other big films like Salman Khan's Tubelight and Shah Rukh Khan's own Jab Harry Met Sejal release over a period of time as well. Varun Dhawan has challenged the big boys in their own arena and first he made a steady progress with his own Badrinath Ki Dulhania and now withJudwaa 2 he has crossed further frontiers.
That said, this record may be short-lived though since Golmaal Again has taken a huge opening as well and the manner in which the Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty film is going currently, it could well challenge Judwaa 2 for the biggest grosser milestone in a matter of a couple of weeks itself.

What? BH didn't have Toilet as the highest grosser but Raees? Oh..kay. Even though BH saying Judwaa passed it, Imma wait for BOI verdict.

Wrong article for mentioning Raees as HGOTY. TEPK had taken over it.

Waise now if J2 is HGOTY, it's for few days only. GA is apparently gonna sweep it all . But being second HGOTY is not less than an achievement for just a 5 yr old industry kid when Khan movies released left right and centre. 😎

Varun Dhawan - New Prince of Box Office at Bollywood

The Bollywood box office has been very dry this year and looks the period of recession has hit them. Every week, there have been movies releasing but most of them have been failing badly at box office. The big superstars like Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor have given duds in name of 'Tubelight', "Harry Mets Sejal' and 'Jaaga Jasoos' this year.

The commerce part will remain more prominent than critical acclaim for any film. The few critics with literary reviews of films can't be real judge for the measurement of success in country like India. Most of them in industry don't take critics and awards seriously. How do we measure whether movie is successful?

The box office can be only measurement for the success of the film. Guru Dutt 'Pyaasa' could be cult classic but the majority of audience will enjoy Govinda 'Coolie No. 1' watching more. The films are made to entertain people and that will not change ever. We can watch Sooraj Barjatya 'Hum Aap Ke Hain Koun' hundred times in life and still enjoy but Oscar nominated brilliant film 'Newton' can be maximum enjoyed to three to five times in lifetime. It is a reality perspective.

The new generation of actors are experimenting with roles and films. It is a good sign as an actor but they also need to be more responsible for success of their film at box office. The films should creatively satisfy you as an actor but the film has to be enjoyed and watched by audience should be more important consideration. Varun Dhawan is one actor from younger generation understanding the logic of box office well. He is yet to see failure at box office because his film choices have been more commercial except 'Badlapur'.

Varun Dhawan started his career with Karan Johor directed 'Student of the Year'. The film was box office success. He was good looking actor with great physique and excellent dancer. He followed up with 'Main Tera Hero' directed by father David Dhawan. He showed brilliant comic timing in the film. Today we can easily rate him actor with best comic timing in younger generation actors.

His next film 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya' was biggest turning point of his career. He fitted the bill of Hindi film hero completely. He could make you smile and cry at same time. He made excellent pair with Alia Bhatt. One more good part is he speaks good Hindi in real life compared to other younger actors during media interactions and so fans are able connect with him better. He has easy going personality with good sense of humor in real life and can connect with audience very well.

'Badalpur' showed him in a negative role as an actor but he was simply brilliant in the film. Despite actor like Nawazzudin Siddiqui in the film who could steal the show with his acting performance, Varun Dhawan made his mark as an actor and gave equal competition as a performer. He saw more success at box office with films like 'ABCD2', 'Dilwale' and 'Dishoom'. His films 'ABCD2' and 'Dilwale' gave him hundred crore club membership at box office.

We always felt Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh would be new prince of box office of Bollywood and cold be successor of Khan Troika at box office, who have been ruling for almost last three decades. Varun Dhawan slowly and steadily made his mark at box office as star and as an actor. This year he had two of biggest success of box office with 'Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya' and 'Judwaa2'. Both the films were super hit at box office. The audience are lapping him with lots of love and affection. He has become new prince of box office at Bollywood.

Varun Dhawan may not get critical acclaim like actors Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh but he is first in race of box office and that is what matters. The audience have picked his movies to watch at theaters higher than critically acclaimed actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. He has charm as an actor but he has also improved in his craft as an actor. He will evolve as an actor but commerce at box office of the film will be given lot of importance by him. Varun Dhawan is new prince of hindi film industry.

Finally, managed to watch the film today. I thought that Judwaa 2 would be the only Varun film which I wouldn't have watched on Theatre. I was busy during the Pooja holidays and had decided to watch the film next weekend. However due to the GST and Entertainment tax issue at Tamilnadu, Judwa2 was removed from all theatres in second weekend itself and PVR & Inox were on strike in Chennai till few days back. And now they are open and have allotted one show each for this weekend alone. So any Varun fan in Chennai who wants to watch this movie in Theatre tomorrow is your last chance.

Coming to the movie, it was a laugh riot. I enjoyed a lot. I feel Varun was excellent in the two roles. I liked Prem more though. Taapsee was beautiful. Jacky is ok. I feel the high number of negative reviews could not hinder the film as audience have lapped up this movie. I hope Varun gets more successes in his upcoming ventures too.
