EXCLUSIVE: Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh were NOT invited for the PADMAVATI 3D trailer launch!
Deepika Padukone was the only star from Padmavati at the 3D trailer launch event of the movie in Mumbai, with Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh skipping it.

This would have been one of the biggest events of the year when the media was invited to watch the launch of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati trailer in 3D on Tuesday. One would have expected all the lead stars of the film - Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh - to be present to showcase the grand trailer. After all, it's a one-of-a-kind event when a trailer is showed in 3D to the media for a Bollywood film. But only Deepika Padukone attended the launch, along with Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures, and Namit Malhotra, Global CEO, Prime Focus. Apart from the news that Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh were still shooting for Padmavati, buzz is that the tension between the two stars kept them away from the launch where Deepika Padukone was present.
Says a trade source, "Deepika's attendance was a last-minute decision made by Bhansali's team. None of the other two stars had been informed about the event. Apparently the Padmavati team decided not to invite Ranveer and Shahid, as there has been stress on their fronts for the last month ever since the first trailer of Padmavati was launched. The team felt that if both male stars came to the event, the palpable tension that has been building up between the two lead actors might spill over on stage. So, both Shahid and Ranveer were not informed about or invited for the Padmavati 3D trailer launch event. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an extremely stressed filmmaker today. Apparently, ever since the Padmavati trailer first released a month ago, Shahid has been making his displeasure clear. Ranveer's look and performance as Alauddin Khilji has stunned everybody and somewhat dimmed Shahid's light in the trailer. Buzz is that Shahid wanted his director to cut another trailer, which would showcase him as well but that hasn't happened till now."
The source adds, "It is being said that the reason for Shahid and Ranveer's absence from the 3D trailer launch was because both were shooting for Padmavati. While Ranveer shoots till November 3, Shahid completed his shoot yesterday and Deepika had just one day left this week. The Padmavati 3D trailer launch event was held in the afternoon so obviously both Shahid and Ranveer couldn't attend. Had it been held in the night or the evening, it would have been different."
A spokesperson from the Padmavati team says, "The question of not being invited doesn't arise, as they were all shooting yesterday. Deepika was not supposed to be part of the event, as she was shooting for Padmavati too, but as her shoot was a little later in the evening she came for it. The launch had to happen yesterday and Shahid and Ranveer were shooting for the entire day in Film City where multiple sets have been constructed. Hence they couldn't come for the 3D trailer launch of Padmavati. Deepika headed straight for the shoot once the event got over. Multiple sets have been put up so all three can complete their shoots on time. Shahid and Deepika have some scenes together while Ranveer is shooting solo. It's a full day shoot and attending the event at any part of the day or night was not possible."
Bhansali's period drama will get a wide release worldwide, as Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures has come on board to distribute the film internationally. Padmavati is based on the fictional tale of a Rajput princess, written by 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi, and recounts the story of her husband, Rajput ruler, Maharawal Ratan Singh of Chittor and Sultan Alauddin Khilji, who became obsessed with the beautiful Rani.
