Off late, both Hollywood and Bollywood have had quite a few people coming out with their casting couch/sexual abuse stories. People who've been on this forum for more than a while would have already learnt to see the dark side of the industry. What I am trying to understand is why is it the film industries that are usually the murkiest? I mean I agree that other industries also have some rotten apples but not sure if more than 90% of them (in each industry) would be such bad people (except for maybe politicians).
And also why is it that the general public does not understands the real truth or is it just that even if they understand the truth they wouldn't care about the plights of the ones being abused?

Its a simple case of money... Which career earns you 10 crores for a 3 months of shooting or even 2-3 crores for a ad which takes one day to shoot.. Or 50 lakhs for 20 mins of dancing on stage...

Forget films, TV stars earn on an average 50000 - r75000 rs per day... That is more that the national income for a month in india

There is no exam to pass, there is not even a talent requirement... Look at ppl like jacqueline... How many crores she must have earned this year despite being one of weakest actress around..

Minimum entry requirements... Maximum income

More desperate young pretty people wanting to make money in an industry controlled by a select few... Is the any wonder that it is the dirtiest industry?

Just think of the money, privileges, exposure and all the good stuff associated with a career that gives you every glamorous thing at your feet at costs not funded by you. Won't everyone want that for themselves? And among billions of people to pick out tens and give them that opportunity is in the hands of a select few, it's obvious why there is exploration. If there is corruption in fields such as education, medicine and even petty part time jobs are explored for why not such a humongous industry.

And about tele stars, according to the stats released in 2013, leading Balaji actors earned 1.25 lakhs per day (not episode) if they were leads and similar for almost all leading channels. Events got them around 40 lakhs for half an hour appearances and especially those like Navratri times where they do five six events per day mostly. Appearances get them similar income, for photoshoot they charge 5lakhs per outfit change or something, plus the recent adverts and campaigns that have started this year. For a career that was heavily looked down upon a decade ago and given to rural 'innocent' girls who were then exploited in term of work hours, remuneration, ethics, work environment and what not... This industry has certainly grown. And the fact that TV doesn't even require you to be pretty, you need to look homely and demure...

And you are exploited in every field, and as a newcomer in every damn job until you manage to make your mark. It's just that the bigger the industry, the bigger is the coverage and the more public are it's hardships. Like no one will talk about office corruption or corporate corruption as easily as Bollywood or glamour industry related corruption. The world's differ, so do the scales and the leverage.

Infinite demand to get into the industry.
Restricted supply of opportunities within the industry.
Gatekeepers with unchecked uncontrolled power to decide who gets in and out.

Its a recipe for disaster.

Money, fame and power. Dangerous combo. Also, the showbiz industry is known to be flexible and open-minded. Some people take advance of this and fulfil their own twisted agenda.
However, I don't think this is the murkiest field out of all. Politics is no less in terms of shady actions. People lierally and kill and wipe others out to obtain leverage. Such is the addiction of power!
