Okay I know many people who used to hate the movie but started to like it after watching it once they grew up and vice versa... So I want to know your opinion on the movie now and what you hate about it barring the acting

I have seen many people calling Astitva progressive though I don't see anything progressive about the movie.. Your opinions on this movie?

Feel free to deviate though try to be a bit creative

Add Rihayee and you will get troika of movie that talks about female sexuality and their need to express it outside marriage for various reason.

In Rihayee, there is woman left alone while man works in city and sleeps with prostitute to fill his needs. She indulges in extra marital affair out of loneliness and decides to keep her baby much to horror of her traditional husband.

In Astitva, there is distant marriage where husband likes to indulge in extra marital affair but gets offended when wife does the same out of her sexual need. The son has no knowledge of this affair.

In KANK, the marriage is emotionally fulfilling but sexually not and hence breakup. The husband is innocent and there is no child resulting in this case. In a way this one is less messy and more mainstream.

KANK told audience Not all marriages are made in heaven - A concept that exist in reality but rose tinted romantic Bollywood movie refused to indulge in. Affairs can happen anytime, anywhere and to anyone. It reminded people - Marriage is ongoing process and not full stop... 😳

I watched KANK last month & didn't mind it. Maya only married Jr' character b/c she thought that was the correct thing to do, b/c it was "her time." They were all a victim of their own circumstances & making. I quite liked it. I watched it for SRK but he was my least favourite character!!

I disliked Preity's character.. Maya's too.. SRK and Abhi should have just gotten rid of them and get together

The problem with KANK was its execution and OTTness. If anyone of the two is still invested in the marriage, extra marital affair is unforgiving. When it's perfectly natural for both the parties to grow out of love and separate/get divorce, if this happens to only 1, decent thing to do is to talk about it to the partner, get separated, and then do whatever. Instead KANK got the leads cheat on their respective partners, manipulate them for days and not coming clean until they were pushed to the corners. The leads were selfish and insensitive to their partners.

In Astitva, Tabu's character was shown as very much in love with her husband and had that downfall(?) only out of loneliness when her husband would be deputed elsewhere for months. It wasn't a marriage of no love (even from the husband's part). Yet, the double standard was appalling where both partners cheated on each other but the HUSBAND was unable to accept the cheating of his wife. In this scenario, the decent thing to do was to accept his own shortcomings too and not judge a person by an act of impulse and if nothing, at least look into his own collar before 'accusing' your wife.

For KANK, one more thing KJo played wrong was to show AB's death mainly caused due to Maya. With that HUGE burden on chest, I didn't understand how can one play happy ending with somebody like it was the most holy thing to happen. KANK creeped me like anything, my FIRST SRK movie where I left the theatre during interval.

Ooo good idea, Mithu! SRK-Jr should've got together but that crouchy perennially bitter SRK wouldn't have ever suited that idealistic good extremely loving man. 😆 Am I the only one who found the Jr-Rani-SRK-PZ opera scene so hot 😆

OMFG I watched Rihaee today!! Amazing performance by Hema Malini.

The thing about KANK was, it was not executed well. The way they just end up in that hotel was handled pathetically. It wasn't even about morals. It was just convenient for the script and the audience didn't buy it. We still wanted more context as to why and how Rani felt the way she did, as with SRK's character, but less so. Karan himself has said he didn't handle it well.

TM: But such things happen am sure in EMAs!! ESP when the spouses live in the same city. I loved that scene b/c I can totally see it happening irl. The hotel scene though was such a flop. Rani looked beautiful through the film though. She was his Maya.
