CHAPTER 6

Khushi had invited Arnav to her home for a dinner with her family. He was nervous. Khushi had lost her parents when she was four. She stayed with her paternal uncle and aunt. They had no child of their own and they had happily accepted Khushi as their daughter, though they hadn't adopted her legally. Arnav knew they meant a lot to Khushi and he didn't want to disappoint them in any way. Neatly dressed in formal attire, Arnav reached Khushi's home a good twelve minutes before time. Passing those minutes with great difficulty, telling himself not to be nervous, he finally stood before the door exactly at eight and rang the doorbell.

"Surprise!!" exclaimed Khushi as she opened the door.

For a moment, Arnav was stunned seeing Khushi in a beautiful off-shoulder gown. Gosh! She is looking damn sexy... Arnav gulped at the thought and cleared his throat, forcefully pushing his thought out of his mind. He was confused initially, but after looking around, he realised that her uncle and aunt weren't at home. Wait! Had she not invited him for a dinner with her family? He just stared at Khushi, perplexed.

"What are you looking at?" she asked naughtily, "They won't return until tomorrow evening" she winked. "I wanted to spend some time with you, so called you over"

Arnav couldn't believe that Khushi wasn't as simple and innocent as she looked. He smirked at the thought as Khushi held his arm and pulled him inside closing the door behind her. They had a romantic candle light dinner in the balcony of Khushi's room. Arnav couldn't stop admiring all the arrangements Khushi had made specially for him. He could see and feel Khushi's love for him through every moment which that beautiful evening brought.

When it was time for dessert, Khushi got ice-cream for both of them. Butterscotch - their favourite! As Arnav saw a corner of Khushi's lips covered with ice-cream, he couldn't hold himself back from licking it off. Khushi was surprised by Arnav's sudden action and his closeness. She liked it. Leaning forward without hesitation, she kissed Arnav passionately. Arnav carried her to the bed without letting her lips part away from his. They fell on the bed and the jerk made them realise they needed to breathe. They laughed as the moved away to fill their lungs with air after their first kiss, but not for more than a minute. They locked lips again, drowning in the moment of love. As Arnav's lips were doing their work, his hands were busy undressing Khushi. Khushi suddenly stopped him after realising what was happening. But Arnav continued taking off her clothes. She was silent. She knew it wasn't right. Her heart was pounding in her chest. As Arnav came over her, "No..." she whispered weakly. But her denial wasn't strong enough to stop Arnav. She wanted Arnav. But... Arnav didn't give her any more time to think and the but' was soon lost into their moans.

Sitting helplessly on his bed, Arnav snapped his eye-lids tight recalling the mistake he had made. But Khushi too had not stopped him strongly. Moreover, she had enjoyed it. He remembered how happy she was after the "mistake".

He opened his eyes after a tiring previous night. Oh no! He remembered what all had happened last night. He gulped looking at Khushi who was sleeping peacefully beside him holding his hand. "Khushi!!" He shook her vigorously, horrified.

"What happened?" a worried Khushi asked him, rubbing off sleep from her eyes.

Arnav was speechless. "Khushi..." he whispered nodding his head in dismay.

Khushi blushed remembering their special moments last night. She kissed Arnav on his chest and said, "I am happy it happened"

Arnav was surprised. "You are not understanding what..."

"Shhh..." Khushi placed her finger on Arnav's lips. "They say, it's safe for the first time" she said, her cheeks flushing red. "And... I trust you" she said stressing every word reminding Arnav how important he was to her. He was overwhelmed.

"I love you Khushi! I love you so much!"

"I love you more!"

A slight smile unknowingly lit her face, as Khushi's mind traveled to the past recalling that night with Arnav. And then her face suddenly turned grim.

"Everything okay?"

Khushi saw Arvind come and sit by her side on the sofa. "I met him today" she said, staring at the floor.

"What?!" Arvind exclaimed angrily. "How could you, Khushi? You went to meet him after all that has happened? I don't believe it!" He said in disappointment.

"I didn't go to meet him... He followed us..." Khushi tried to explain, "To the garden... Arohi and I"

"What was the need to even speak to him?" asked an angry Arvind. "I didn't like this at all, Khushi!"

"I am sorry... Please don't misunderstand. I know you don't like him at all"

"Don't like? I HATE him!" Arvind let out a furious sigh.

Khushi didn't reply. She knew Arvind would never think well of Arnav. After a moment of silence, Arvind asked, "What was that **** saying?"

"I didn't let him say anything" said Khushi strongly, as her mind filled with rage and misery at the same time.

Arvind hugged Khushi side-ways as her eyes watered. She looked at him forcing a smile. "I am fine" she said.

"Sorry, I was angry... You know how much I love you, don't you?"

Khushi nodded, as she sniffed while wiping off her tears.

"Don't worry, you are with me now... I won't let him trouble you again!"

"Khushi!"

She heard her name just as she got down the cab in front of the gate of her office. Not again! Ofcourse she recognised Arnav's voice even before turning to face him. "Why don't you just stop following me?!" She turned to leave.

"Wait! Please!" Arnav hurried behind her. Seeing her increasing pace, he said, "We were happy together, Khushi! We were so happy! And look at us now. Neither am I happy, nor are you..."

Hearing this, Khushi stopped at her place. Facing Arnav, she said, "Who told you I am not happy?" She chuckled. "Oh! How can I forget! You are so good at assuming things, aren't you?"

"Khushi... I am not telling you to leave Arvind and come back to me... I just don't want things between us to be so bitter"

Khushi just looked away folding her hands across her chest. Arnav could feel he was losing this battle.

"So... You are happy with..." he gulped before saying the name... "with Arvind?"

"Yes, very happy! Okay?" replied Khushi, "Now leave!"

"So he accepted you... along with Arohi?"

"He did..." she said, "Unlike you!"

With another strong blow through Arnav's heart, Khushi walked off.
