Chapter 1Her eyes continued to water every time she craned her neck back and saw the vulnerable faces of her mom and dad. A new set of nears made their way down to her make up clad cheeks which were now flushed as she sobbed into the back of her hand, the jewellery slightly scrubbing her nose making it turn red.
"Khushi Go!" She saw her mother whisper softly pushing her a little to where her husband stood a little unsure, along with his family.
Husband? Yes! Arnav Singh Raizada was his name. He had a large family consisting of 7 more people apart from him. His Nani, Mamiji, Mamaji, Sister, Brother, Brother in law and Sister in law where as Khushi just had her parents with no sibling of her own.
She had met these people at her dad's common friends party where Nani and her mom instantly hit off and so did his Mamaji and her dad. 5 weeks had passed and she had nearly forgotten the event when she saw all the familiar faces in her living room one day as she parked her scooty in the garage and barged inside with a letter in her hand.
That day, she had got 2 news which completely surprised her, one- she had got accepted in her dream university of Delhi to pursue her MBA that too with a scholarship, and the other being her proposal.
These Raizadas sitting in her living room had apparently brought a proposal for her marriage with their eldest son Arnav.
Khushi didnt even remember who he was until her mom reminded her of a guy instantly glued to his phone and kept nagging everyone at the party to leave at the earliest.
What a shame! Before she could ponder over the proposal after she had agreed that she would think upon it, her parents had taken it to be a Yes and shook hands with the Raizadas not noticing her gaping at the kitchen door.
This was how she was landed here at the Mandap just after 2 months to that day.
Anjali, her husband's elder sister came forward to softly hold her hand and pull her forward as she looked down not being able to control her tears. Looking back one last time, she wiped off her tears before walking to the car with her new family, determined not to let anymore tears make their way into her eyes which were already swollen.
After Anjali had made her sit down tucking in her lehenga in the car properly, she motioned her brother to get inside too while she and her husband, Shyam sat in the front and before she could notice, she could see her parents faces zooming out of the car's window.
Her breathing was irregular and everybody in the car sensed that. As Anjali tried to make a light conversation between the people in the car, she felt some warm fingers getting entangled in hers. Surprised, she looked up her heavy lashes to see her Arnav smiling lightly at her, if the quirking the end of his lips counted as smiling. She couldnt decide what to make out of the situation, not like her new family gave her horrors but she knew it would be hard to cater to everyone there when she just lived with 2 people in her home all her life. But she was ready to welcome the change though hesitantly.
Her musings were broken off with a shrill of the phone. The warm fingers clutching her hand a while ago parted as Arnav extracted the phone out of his pocket.
"Yeah?"
"What?"
"I cant.. is there no alternate?"
"Okay, I'll be there!"
His last sentence of course had everyone in the car all ears by the time he finished his call.
"Di, I'll have to go."
